The historic Jackson magnolia has been on the south facade of the White House since the 1800s—making it the oldest on the grounds. But Tuesday, Melania Trump reportedly made the decision to have it removed after tree specialists determined “the overall architecture and structure of the tree is greatly compromised.”

The Tree must be Illegal, a Muslim or both according to Newsweak.

They probably think Hillary planted it and Moochelle watered it.

Yes, could be.

We had that happen with our symbolic Wye Oak and a very old tree on the St. John’s campus in Annapolis; all were dying/blew down in the last 15 years.

Someone took wood and made instruments out of it, I think the Annapolis tree.

FOX Radio news reported that the tree was deemed a “security threat.”

Maybe someone up to no good could hide in the tree? I’m not sure if that was what FOX was implying.

You are right that she didn’t just make the decision without it being recommended to her, but she would have to sign off on it as the upkeep of the grounds and the WH fall under the responsibilities of the FLOTUS. The grounds keepers can’t just uproot and change the grounds of the WH without authorization.

As I view the situation, Melania Trump did not order the tree removed. God Almighty did! There was a time when Newsweek was the more reliable of the big three weekly news magazines. But it has long since thrown in the towel and prints fake news, just like the others.

the tree maybe needs to come down, yes.
but that decision needs to be taken by somebody in a proper position of responsibility to take it

I say they should save the wood and send it to a craftsman in the Carolinas,or to the Amish and have some great piece of furniture built from it, and put THAT in the White House

Nature is not static no matter how hard you try to force it to be via rules, regulations and laws, leftists. Trees get old and die eventually. This one has been declining for many years. Trying to slime Melania Trump for “ordering” it to be taken down is really weird and stupid. That is, unless the whole point of the article is to damage her popularity. She is a very popular First Lady despite only 11 months at it.

Find a B-I-G healthy Magnolia somewhere in Dixie, and have it moved to the White House grounds.

A town in Michigan was all abuzz about big old pine trees by the community center being taken down, lots of complaining. Then, there was the tornado...

Magnolias can be moved, but it’s risky proposition, since the root ball must be huge.

Not only have they been trying to preserve the tree for decades, they cultivated a replacement tree from cuttings a number of years ago

The replacement has now grown to be over 10 feet tall and is ready to replace its parent as soon as the old tree has been found to be unsalvageable

This replacement plan has been in place since long before Obama took office

Sadly, the old tree is finally at the end of its days but the new replacement has grown large enough to replace it

Would anyone know how to obtain a piece of this tree? Something like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, for some choice lumber.
