With a seeming rise in the occurrence of snow days, blizzards and icy travel, the common belief that climate change isn’t happening comes as no surprise.
Scientists stress that locally wintry weather conditions are not indicators of changes in climate, and weather conditions in one part of the world are not representative of what’s occurring globally.
“It’s like saying, 'if everyone around me is wealthy, then poverty is not a problem,'” Peter Frumhoff, the Union of Concerned Scientists science and policy director and chief climate scientist, told CNN.
Scientists point to hard data, including temperature measurements on land and water taken over several decades, which points to an upwards trend in global temperatures, otherwise known as global warming.
“We know that right now, we’ve had three years – 2016, 2015 and 2014 – which were the hottest on record since 1880,” said Brenda Exwanker, climate science director and senior climate scientist for the Union of Concerned Scientists.
NASA reported that 16 of the 17 warmest years on record all happened since 2001.
“Global warming is definitely happening,” Exwanker added.
A popular question seems to be that if global warming is occurring, why do winters seem unusually harsh?
Understanding the distinct difference between weather and climate helps to answer that question.
"Weather refers to the conditions in the atmosphere over a short period of time, whereas climate refers to trends in atmospheric patterns over a much longer timescale," said Dr. John Fleming, a climate scientist with the Center for Biological Diversity.
“This is well expressed as an analogy: weather is like your mood, whereas climate is like your personality,” he said.
“This is why it is possible to have unusually cold weather across much of the U.S. [during] winter, while observing that globally, surface temperatures have been steadily rising,” he added.

Aren’t these the same guys that said, 10 years ago, that we would never see snow again in our lifetime? That our children would never see snow??
Peter Frumhoff (policy director and chief climate “scientist” of the “Union of Concerned Scientists”) has an obvious conflict of interest as his job is dependent on there being anthropological climate change. Every word out of his mouth is suspect, and per usual, his argument isn’t cased on science but on obfuscation of science and scientific principle.

How quaint that their “go-to” sources for climate disinformation are affiliated with the Communist-extremist “Union of Concerned Scientists” organization.
As many have noted, to such shills, cold weather is just weather, while hot weather, droughts, and tropical storms are not weather, rather they are evidence of ‘climate change’.

It doesn’t debunk it. It doesn’t support it. Weather is weather. It changes. We are having a cold winter here, but nothing like the winter of 78-79.
Didn’t they just rename it “climate change”?
They started with Global Warming and it will always be Global Warming no matter how many times they change the name ,LOL
Accuweather missed the high temperature here one day last week by twenty degrees. Just two days out. But hey, weather is hard to predict. Climate on the other hand is easy peasy.
I will try Storm out. I have no patience whatsoever with global warmers. They are ignorant.
I would hope that Monsanto and Pioneer are developing hybrids to deal with cold short growing seasons.
But if it was unseasonaly warm for a few weeks instead of cold, these dumb asses would be sure to tell us that it was proof that the planet was warming.
When there is record cold the GW crowd says that’s just weather not climate. But when there’s a heat wave in the summer or large hurricane they point to it as proof positive of global warming.
In order for a theory to be scientific, it must be capable of being falsified. When all weather conditions are attributed to global warming, the theory cannot be falsified and is, thus, not scientific.
Actually they want the resources from ‘conflict areas’....when they move the young men to other nations the militias have no one to recruit, forceably and not. Thus the conflict ebbs sufficient for the UN hardhats to cover and protect while they mine the resources. Thus no outside country looses their own en fighting....
Basically it’s the long way of stopping the conflicts where resources are there for the pickings.
The Sky is falling.
OK, how do you guarantee that you can stop the Sky from falling?
