Another Republican Won't Seek Re-Election This Year

The list of House Republicans choosing not to seek re-election in 2018 is lengthy and now Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Ed Royce can be added to make it longer.

The Congressman released a lengthy statement Monday evening explaining his decision to step away from Washington.

“In this final year of my Foreign Affairs Committee chairmanship, I want to focus fully on the urgent threats facing our nation, including: the brutal, corrupt and dangerous regimes in Pyongyang and Tehran, Vladimir Putin’s continued efforts to weaponize information to fracture western democracies, and growing terrorist threats in Africa and Central Asia. With this in mind, and with the support of my wife Marie, I have decided not to seek reelection in November," Royce said. “I want to extend my deepest appreciation to the people of the 39th District for entrusting me with the responsibility to represent them. Our district is blessed to be diverse, and I’ve been successful in part because of my great staff and the relationships we’ve built with families, businesses and leaders in each of our communities. We’ve personally helped countless Southern Californians."

“Orange County will always be home to Marie and me, and we look forward to being with all our friends at Lunar New Years, Korean American Days, Fourth of Julys and many other community events for years to come,” he continued.

Sixteen Republicans and seven Democrats have announced their resignations ahead of the midterms. Some are leaving after accusations of sexual misconduct (Blake Farenthold, for example), while others are in tough districts that Democrat Hillary Clinton won in the most recent presidential election.

Jack Posobiec called Royce out on twitter a few days ago.

He said something to the effect of “are you going to resign or do I have to tell everyone what you did?”

I’ve tried to find the tweet on Jack’s page but couldn’t locate it.

Don’t have a clue as to what he was referring to.

Maybe he is one of the 260.

Or it could be their internal polls are actually showing a Dem wave in Nov. Not a pleasant thought but very possible.

They’ll all vote for amnesty as a parting gift.

List here on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2017/11/10/politics/house-retirement-tracker/index.html

21 leaving...10 running for another office (5 for the Senate)

8 leaving....all 8 running for another office

Now as often as we squawk about term limits when dems are in office, oddly we’re very uncomfortable when Republicans choose to leave.

Most of the ones I've seen listed are actually RINOs, so no loss.

Just because you don’t like certain reps of the House and or the Senate does not make them RINOs. What makes them RINOs is with which party do they mostly vote. If they vote mostly with the rat party, than they might as well switch over to them

I think a 96% conservative rating is quite perfect. It would be different if the numbers were reversed.

North Orange County, CA and Los Angeles and he’s a 96% ACU conservative? Amazing. Possibly, because he is wired in to international business interests, many subsets to the population with overseas business interests he has looked out for on the Foreign Affairs Committee. On social issues—he’d be slaughtered. Pretty deft politician.

There’s this note from LA Times: “Thirty minutes following his announcement, President Trump formally nominated Royce’s Wife, Marie Royce to be Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs.” Royce is moving into a different realm- willing to bet in lobbying.

He was a corporate guy for Portland Cement.

I would love to see where these retirements are...

I fully expect that any republican in a deep blue state is going to be in trouble.... as the Trump is satan is going to create turnout waves in these echo chambers...

The remaining republicans need to get on board with MAGA and the republicans need to get the Trump voters to show up in those purple districts in DEEP RED states.. to counter this..

Right now, seems like the R are just banking the Tax Cuts will motivate... and I don’t think it will.... Need to reach the MAGA voter and get them motivated.

I’ve always known you were a RINO/RAT lover. I guess Juan McLame and Linda Graham are your heroes.

Okay how exactly do you conclude this:

I’ve always known you were a RINO/RAT lover. I guess Juan McLame and Linda Graham are your heroes.

From this:

Just because you don’t like certain reps of the House and or the Senate does not make them RINOs. What makes them RINOs is with which party do they mostly vote. If they vote mostly with the rat party, than they might as well switch over to them

With the jungle primary they have created, conservatives should actually run as Independents, or even Democrats in some places - it would give them a greater chance of winning and actually being listened to - and actually be able to get on the general election ballot. As it is, Republicans don’t even have a chance to make their case because it is now almost impossible for them to even be on the general election ballot because so many will just vote against the “Republican” by default.

Royce's wife just accepted a position in the Trump administration.

Just today I learned that Royce has endorsed long-time team member Young Kim to succeed him. She's smart...and as you see here:
