Low carb diets won’t be affected.

If globull warming is actually something, we should get more syrup. The addition of carbon dioxide will enhance plant growth and there will be more maples, bigger maples, and more sap for sure.

I collected it one year from the 4 trees in my front yard in Indiana. It ran very sporadically, aligned with the temperature. It takes a freezing night and then a warm day. Then it will run. If you delay getting your buckets set you might miss it. Some seasons are longer than others.

Then I took all 50 gallons of sap in the house and started to boil it down. Do NOT do this. All the wallpaper started to come down. But it was delicious.

Hurricane Sandy came through and scared me into taking all of those trees out.

[Climate change could threaten breakfast. According to a new study, sugar maples that provide sap for syrup may not survive the hot and dry climate caused by global warming.]

LOL. Let me know after this year’s snow pack melts.

The biggest threat to Hardwoods are invasive pests.

Heads up. Climate change will affect everything .....to one tiny degree or another.

Why focus on maple syrup ? Is it the magic elixir that makes the world turn ?

Since the great draught of 2007, my cousin’s sugar bush in Upper Michigan has been producing more high quality sap than before the draught. The sugar maple trees are larger since 2007, despite the draught.

A single tree easily produces 10 gallons of sap each 24 hour period.

Meaning you can tap that much daily, or you can tap what percentage of the total 10 gallons it produces?

"Excess nitrogen?"

Soon it will be illegal to give away free nitrogen with the purchase of a set of tires.

Each of 4 taps called spiles produces about 2.5 gallons.

In addition, the sapsucker attacks the tree and sap literally streams from the sapsucker holes.

One way for determining when to collect the sap is to look for the sapsucker. He knows
