Sen. Pat Roberts: Nobody under 21 should have an AR-15 [GOPe]
Wichita Eagle ^ | Jonathan Shorman

TOPEKA Sen. Pat Roberts supports placing an age restriction on the rifle that was used in a Florida school shooting where 17 people died.

The Kansas Republican said he believes Congress is ready to act and expects President Donald Trump to take the lead.

"This is an opportunity, if you look at these youngsters who are so emotionally tied in to this grief of losing their friends — but it’s more than gun control. But I think we’re ready as a Congress to actually pass something and I think it’s going to be better background checks. Certainly nobody under 21 should have an AR-15," Roberts told reporters at the Kansas Statehouse.

"I don’t know why anybody would want an AR-15 unless they’re going to take one out on the shooting range."

The call for an age restriction may place Roberts in tension with the National Rifle Association.

Heh, heh...Kansas. Ha, ha. Get yourself a rocking chair, Paddy. It’s time to take life easier and spend more time in your State’s ethnic supper clubs, where there are drunken children.

So comfortable socialists like Paddy want to disarm all people under that age of 21, including many young adults who have children. Then, they needn’t register for the draft or be eligible for military service, until they’re 21.

Start snagging those elite favorite sons of affluenza, before they pull off more mass murders. Build reform schools for them. It’s a local problem with local remedies.

The fedgov bullied them all into 21 using highway funding.

And Ronnie Reagan of all people was the one who allowed himself to be bullied into something 180 degrees opposed to his philosophy.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving was the hot Liberal social movement of the day.

Has he ever been back (to Kansas) during the last 20 years?

He's been in Washington for 38 years.

Hasn't even had a bowl movement 20.

Sen. Pat Roberts: Nobody under 21 should have an AR-15 [GOPe]

Gonna need a constitutional amendment to implement that one, Senator.

I humped a BAR at age 19. Many times I wished someone would take the heavy sucker away from me.

Total waste of time. Would this have stopped John Malvo? If laws work, why do we have crime?

OK Pat, as long as no one over 80 gets to remain in the Senate.

“Does this guy actually come from a farm state? Has he ever been back there during the last 20 years?”

IIRC, this was an issue in his last re-election race and the opponent put it to good use but was overcome by the power of incumbency and Senate Republican re-election committee.

“Certainly nobody under 21 should have an AR-15”

That’s a specific brand. What about all the others patterned after that brand?

What about AK-47s and rifles patterned after them?

Mini-14’s, etc.?

M1 Carbines, etc.?

and of course raise the voting age to 21.

And if you’re not trustworthy enough to be allowed to buy a firearm to protect your family, raise the marriage age to 21.

"I’m generally not adamantly opposed to this but I would also change voting age to 21 as well."

Been there, done that. I could legally drink at 18, but couldn't vote until I was 21. And although I never smoked, I could buy a pack of cigarettes as a kid. Many the time my mother sent me to the corner store to pick her up a pack of Camel's. They were 25 cents at the time. I made sure though, that she gave me candy money as a tip.

I let him have it via his website.

I’m IN California where we already have idiotic laws like he’s espousing. There’s NO SENSE in which those laws and policies have transformed this benighted State into any sort of Paradise.

Roberts has become “The Swamp.”

Time for him to pull the drain plug and go home.

And let's not forget the militia.

10 U.S. Code § 246 - Militia: composition and classes (emphasis added):

(a) The militia of the Uni ted States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
(b) The classes of the militia are—
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.

We'll need to raise that "17 years of age". If you can't buy yourself a gun you shouldn't be in the militia.

If that is the case, then no one under 21 should:

Serve in the military
Drive a car
vote
be legally responsible for signing a contract

No one under 50 should vote.
