Walmart Inc said on Wednesday that it was raising the minimum age at which customers could buy firearms and ammunition to 21 years.

The U.S. retailer is also removing items from its website resembling assault-style rifles, including non-lethal airsoft guns and toys, it said in a statement.

When I was a kid, if you could plunk cash on the barrelhead, Western Auto would sell you anything.

...too young to drive a car, have an abortion etc etc.

Some people on our side have stepped right into the Alinsky steaming pile.

If you are too young to be trusted with a gun, you are too young to be trusted with a vote.

Bingo! I was thinking earlier today that if they (the feds) decide to raise min age to 21 to buy a gun, they'd better damned sure raise the voting age to 21 as well.

You are an idiot, I went deer hunting at age 12 with my own rifle. I never shot up a school, never got in trouble.

"That’s why we always had some older guy to buy cigs and booze for us."

Takes me back...only, we hung out with a guy who when he was 17, looked like he was 25 and often times didn't even get carded. The store clerks just didn't want the rest of us carrying the beer up to the counter so our friend often had to make multiple trips. :)

Old enough to vote, old enough to be drafted and make the ultimate sacrifice but no rifles, pistols, alcohol or tobacco. There is something wrong with this picture.

Can they do this under the law? If a state says you can buy this at age 18, can a business change it to any arbitrary age it feels like?

It's against the law, but they will get away with it.

""I'm in favor of raising everything up to age 21, including driver's licenses, and requiring parental consent for military enlistment, marriage and abortions."

Add to that list, voting and the legal age of becoming an adult. Everyone under 21 would be considered a minor then, and treated as such under the law. That's the only way it makes legal sense.

===============================================

In fact, the more I think about this, the more I'm warming up to the idea of making it 21 for everything across the board.

Think of all the tens of thousands of irrational 18-20 year old who vote liberal simply because they think it's "cool" and who are far more influenced by "celebrities." Raising the voting age to 21 could help tremendously, and all those that are responsible and know how to handle a gun will continue to do so anyway all across the country.

Think the libs would go for that? Not a chance, they actually want to lower the voting age.

If kids can join the military at 18 AND be on the front lines defending their country they certainly should be able to own a firearm!!! This logic HOWEVER did NOT stop the BASTARDS from letting them have a beer!!!!

Yep, and too young to enter military service. Throw in too young to have a drivers license, own/rent a car, own property or have a bank account/credit card. Too young to do jack until you’re 21 except live in mom’s basement. Yeah, l’d love to see that enforced. 😀

Thin ice indeed. WM can just choose not to market firearms...which would be their right as it would be my right not to shop there. 18 v 21 has nothing to do with it nor does a store policy to carry or not to carry certain lines of merchandise regardless of whom they choose to sell or not to sell that merchandise to.

It is their store, they can do what they want. If they decide not to sell weapons to anyone, just stop all together, they can. It is their stores.

I’m fully supportive of raising the firearms purchase age.

Not looking for a fight, just curious about your position. So, a father buys an AR-15 and gives it to his 18 y/o son. Do you want to regulate the age at which people can possess a gun or just the age of purchase. After all, the 18 y/o in this example never had a background check but an 18 y/o buying his own weapon has a background check.
