“$3.65 Mil/mile?”

Not a bad price, by historical norms. It was not clear from the article if the new barrier is thirty feet tall, like the new one in Calexico, California is. The article just says “taller” bollard style.

The terrain is pretty easy there, and it sits right next to an existing road.

They are paying $8 Million per mile for the new thirty foot bollards in Calexico, but that includes a new bridge over a small river, and removing more material from the old barrier. Calexico is also a smaller project (2 1/4 miles), so there is less economy of scale for the overhead/set up costs.

There is also no indication that I have seen of what type of lights, sensors or utilities (electrical/communications conduit) might or might not be included in either project. The Calexico project is also more urban.

If it is see through like the sample shown, that is a good thing. It is too easy to sneak up on a solid wall in an isolated area, put up a ladder, or build a ramp to the top. I just hope this company doesn’t belong to one of his cabinet member buddies with 2 full time employees.
