Gov. Rick Scott of Florida Caves: Signs $400 Million Gun Control Legislation

“GOV. RICK SCOTT CAVES: SIGNS $400 MILLION GUN CONTROL BILL: by Dr. Michael J. Hurd

Exactly why do we have Republican governors again?

Of course, he felt compelled to “do something”. To not “do something” would seem like a failure to honor the victims of the Florida government school slaughter last month. At least if you think the government has the power to stop such shootings by disarming the innocent and doing nothing whatsoever to protect them, such as arming teachers or privatizing schools.

“Doing something” is often worse than doing nothing. The Republican Governor’s bill includes provisions to prevent 18-year-old adults — who can join or theoretically be drafted into the army — from having the right to defend themselves until they are 21.

Democrats are generally bonkers, especially when it comes to guns. Republican governors know better, which makes Gov. Scott’s “do something” gun control bill a disgraceful breach of integrity. But it’s nothing new. People who vote for Republicans are like women married to cheating husbands. They keep thinking it will be different, but it never is.

Ironically, the entire American system of government was based on doing nothing, not doing something. The Bill of Rights, including the precious First and Second Amendments, are based on prohibitions against the government doing things that historically governments have always done — disarm the population and control what they think, read and say.

On our current course, we will soon have a government that does everything to us, instead of the nothing we were once promised.

As usual, Dr. Michael J. Hurd is right on the $$. Our federal government was built upon the premise of doing nothing, rather than doing something. Most state governments were of the same mindset. Whether it’s poverty, health insurance, education, or anything not among the enumerated powers of Article 1, Section 8, zero government action is our governing principle. www.artfuldilettante.com

Law abiding citizens are evil and must be taught a lesson but Crazies like Cruz can continue doing what they’re doing

But... but.. but - its all for the childrun!

If there’s a saving grace, the p*ssant David Hogg, for whom they enacted this law, won’t be able to get a gun until he’s 21.

The irony is the NRA he demonizes, is fighting to allow him to keep that RKBA he insisted Florida terminate.

I agree, unfortunately the people we hired to indoctrinate our children are indoctrinating them with lies and no knowledge whatsoever about the foundation of Liberty. They are almost incapable of understanding the nature of their problem.
This is unfortunate because they live in the community where they have elected local leaders who as a matter of policy are letting a great many criminals go resulting in skyrocketing crime rates most especially assault which is 10 times the rate just about anywhere else in the US.

They need guns for personal defense more than ever. Especially their women who physically cannot defend themselves.
This act is discriminatory against them.

"The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for among old parchments or musty records. They are written, as with a sunbeam, in the whole volume of human nature, by the hand of the divinity itself; and can never be erased or obscured by mortal power."

Why would he want one? I'm sure Mr. High and Mighty can use a baseball bat or something if he's ever threatened.

Serving the purposes of the radical Left to get elected, even overturning constitutionall law, rather than a patriot passionately arguing your case for freedom is the RINO way.

Scott is proven himself as one more SELF-SERVING, slovenly lazy coward, AWOL, from duty to country, greasing the slippery slope to increasing lawlessness.

Very, very good.

Thought of another thing.

How can one support gun control in the name of protecting our children, while being pro-choice on abortion. Such hypocrisy.

In my youth Democrats like LBJ insisted 18-years olds have M16s.

Scott is running for Republican nomination to run against Bill Nelson for USSenate. This bill was the least worst of bad bills. He was definitely in ‘ I gotta do something’ situation. Democrats in Florida are running on confescation of guns.

No one is forcing him to buy one.

That doesn’t mean other 18-20 year olds should be prohibited from buying a firearm solely because of their age.

I don’t see that Scott had any choice, his own part put this bill together, people want “something done”, and this bill actually has some good parts, like arming teachers. If he had a line-item veto it would be different but to veto this entire bill would have been political suicide.

NRA’s suit may provide the best outcome, challenging the gun-grabbing parts that are unconstitutional but letting most of the rest stand.

There is a section in this law that enhances confiscation policies for law enforcement also.....this bill has had to be waiting in the wings just waiting for such an occurrence.

“Iatrogenics is when a treatment causes more harm than benefit. As iatros means healer in Greek, the word means “caused by the healer” or “brought by the healer.” Healer, in this sense, need not mean doctor, but anyone intervening to solve a problem. For example, it could be a thought leader, a CEO, a government, or a coalition of the willing. Nassim Taleb calls these people inventionistas. Often these people come armed with solutions to solve the first order consequences of a decision but create worse second and subsequent order consequences. Luckily, for them at least, they’re never around to see the train wreck they created.”

Our representatives assume authority not granted to them. They will rue rather than rule the day.

http://press-pubs.uchicago.edu/founders/documents/v1ch3s5.html

“Hence also, the origin of all civil government, justly established, must be a voluntary compact, between the rulers and the ruled; and must be liable to such limitations, as are necessary for the security of the absolute rights of the latter; for what original title can any man or set of men have, to govern others, except their own consent? To usurp dominion over a people, in their own despite, or to grasp at a more extensive power than they are willing to entrust, is to violate that law of nature, which gives every man a right to his personal liberty; and can, therefore, confer no obligation to obedience.

The principal aim of society is to protect individuals, in the enjoyment of those absolute rights, which were vested in them by the immutable laws of nature; but which could not be preserved, in peace, without that mutual assistance, and intercourse, which is gained by the institution of friendly and social communities. Hence it follows, that the first and primary end of human laws, is to maintain and regulate these absolute rights of individuals.” Blackstone.
