A federal judge Wednesday gave preliminary approval to a $3.5 million settlement of a lawsuit against the IRS over alleged targeting of tea party groups and other conservative organizations.

U.S. District Judge Michael Barrett set a July 10 hearing in Cincinnati on making the settlement final, and scheduled deadlines for claims and objections.

The Justice Department had announced last year that the case had been settled, pending approval of terms.

The lead plaintiff was the California-based Norcal Tea Party Patriots. The case swelled into a class-action suit by hundreds of groups. The court will decide how much each gets after legal costs.

Sure want to see Lois Learner in an orange jump-suit.

Why would it be good news for a Putinista like you? Tea Party folks are not Putin supporters. 90% of your posts are in defense of Russia and that KGB/FSB thug who leads it.

$3.5 million?

That sounds like an afterthought in the IRS budget. No real penalty, and it gets the case closed.

So the perps get off scot-free, and stiff the taxpayers with the bill for their wrongdoing. Nice little racket.

And the high criminal Lois Lerner enjoys her platinum retirement paid by the people she despises.

Um.... isn’t the tea party settlement a blow to what the tea party stands for? Why should the tax payers have to pay it? Why isn’t Lois Lerner responsible for the money?

I agree that a criminal investigation should be next. I thought this kind of s**t only happened in 3rd world dictatorships.

If I was PDJT I would do away with all public sector employee bonuses — starting with the IRS.

A federal judge Wednesday gave preliminary approval to a $3.5 million settlement of a lawsuit against the IRS

So what? The settlement is not being paid by the perpetrators, Lois Learner, John Koskinen et al.

A lawsuit against the IRS is a lawsuit against 'the people', so why should 'we the people' pay the penalty for the illegal activities of these political operatives? Deduct these settlements from the flush government pensions they amassed performing illegal acts against tax payers.

I don't want justice, I want revenge!!!

No. People are entitled to be compensated for wrongdoing on the part of govt. Been that way since before the founding of this country.

I do agree that wrongdoers like Lois Lerner should be criminally and civilly liable.

In other words, taxpayers foot the bill while Lois Lerner retires in comfort.

Just think: Out of that whole Obama criminal cabal, the only person in that circle who went to jail was the guy who sexted. That was a priority over espionage, treason, abuse of power, racketeering.
