Former First Lady Barbara Bush, 92, decided Sunday to focus on comfort care in the face of her failing health, rather than additional medical treatment.
Following a recent series of hospitalizations, and after consulting her family and doctors, Mrs. Bush, now age 92, has decided not to seek additional medical treatment, and instead will focus on comfort care, read a statement from the office of George H. W. Bush.
Bush has been in an out of the hospital the past year battling chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and congestive heart failure.
The former first lady has been married to former President George H.W. Bush for 73 years, and is also the mother to former President George W. Bush.
"She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving, the statement read.
I have and my heart goes out to her. COPD is a horrible way to go.
Spare me the heartstrings. I expect the emotional crying from a Liberal.
God bless her.
My Dad, who had quit smoking over 30 years prior, succumbed to COPD rapidly over the course of about 3 years. COPD is nasty when it is aggressive, as it was in his case.
He would get winded walking from the car to the front door of the house. I know that it crushed his spirit, because he was so used to doing everything himself, and in the last couple of years, even the most mundane physical task became daunting...
What are you talking about?
What’s funny is that when the Bushes die, all the liberals will praise them and lament that the GOP has gone away from the party they were when the Bushes were running things.
Politics gets thrown out the window at this point.
I pray the former First Lady Barbara Bush, and the entire Bush family for that matter, come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Now.
And may Almighty God comfort her in the time she has left in mortal life.
She is so right to just go home and be with family. One of my biggest regrets is taking my dying husband to the hospital where he was miserable for weeks before he died.
WTF, dude?
I have always admired Barbara Bush. May the good Lord bring her the gift of eternal life as she rests her head in his arms. Prayers go to the entire family.
Mods are going to be busy, I have a feeling.
Sometimes it is just time to go. Insurance companies are paid millions to extend life and to what end? Your Mother is closer to God more now than at any time since she was born. I say that the Medical Profession has taken advantage of most people’s fear of death because the most profitable patients they have are the ones that extend the length of life more than the quality of life. I say to you that your attitude is totally unselfish and loving. Let your mother go in peace and with dignity. She will appreciate it.
+1
Prayers for her.
She was and is the epitome of class. The FLOTUS all others SHOULD use as a measurement.
Bless her and her family and may she and they find serenity and comfort in her final days.

We all are.
married 73 years! I am shooting for 80, i will only be 100. :)
She never tried to interfere in the running of the country, and was satisfied being this country’s First Lady. I hope her final days are peaceful, and spent in comfort.
Yes, a real lady.
