and how are they gonna meet the CAFE standards with nothing but trucks and SUVs?

or will CAFE go the way of the sedan?

What are the rental car companies going to do now? Small sedans are their staple.

Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia.

Get rid of all CAFE standards and I think big cars would probably do well.

CAFE does not apply to trucks and SUVs. That's another reason cars are gone!

The reason there are no more ‘bench’ seats is they would have to put in another air bag.................

My first car had a bench seat. I was 6'2" tall and met my wife who was 5'2" tall. If we took a trip of any length I would have to sit in the back seat when she drove as the front bench seat was too close to the dash.

That segment has already been taken by SUVs. Nobody wants a big sedan like that now.

They already do. They’re called Volvo’s

Good. Time for basic cars that get us where we want to go without all of the driver surveillance gadgets and other electronic junk that add to the vehicle’s costs, fragility and difficulties in maintenance.

you sure?

The CAFE achieved by a given fleet of vehicles in a given model year is the production-weighted harmonic mean fuel economy, expressed in miles per USgallon (mpg), of a manufacturer’s fleet of current model year passenger cars or light trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 8,500 pounds (3,856 kg) or less (but also including medium-duty passenger vehicles, such as large sport-utility vehicles and passenger vans, with GVWR up to 10,000 pounds), produced for sale in the United States.

Domestic designers are just producing stale bread.
The market is flooded with too many used cars anyway.
They are just holding down production to outlast Trump and continue their cheap over seas production later after he is gone.

I don’t think I would ever buy a sedan again, domestic or otherwise.

They should keep one lie of cars the size of the Crown Vic and the last of the large Lincoln Towncars. If they did, they'd see sales for large cars pick up sales to people who want to stand out from the run of the mill SUV craze.

The problem with cars is they're all too small with too little leg and head room.

We owned a Chevette when we were young and flexible. When we need a new car, we always look at sedans, but we just can’t fit in them comfortably anymore. We now own a minivan and a crossover. We need the head and legroom, and don’t have to step down to get in or up to get out.

Time for a change in leadership at General Motors. Mary Barra is not “too cute to fail”.

My Ford dealer says they have a waiting list of people who want a clean used Town Car. Sure, gas mileage sucks but, it’s still a beautiful car.
The new Continental doesn’t seem to have sold well. I hear they are not going to keep making them.

I have two Town Cars, both 2008. My wife’s has 76,000 miles..mine has 27,000, (that’s right, 27,000)...never need/want another car..exquisite American luxury sedans.

The whole idea of backing in is to get the 'pain in the arse' part of parking out of the way FIRST, rather than deal with backing OUT after you get back to your car.

Every time a person in a big fat arse truck or SUV BACKS IN to their parking spot, THIS IS SELF-ADMISSION THAT THEY HATE THEIR OWN VEHICLE BECAUSE PARKING IT IN A PARKING LOT IS A PAIN IN THE BUTT SO THEY GET THE HARD PART OF PARKING IT OUT OF WAY FIRST BY BACKING IN, MAKING IT EASIER TO PULL AWAY IF THEY'RE POINTED 'NOSE OUT' RATHER THAN ARSE OUT.
