German $10 Billion Gas Bill Shows Perks of Close Russia Ties

Are Berlin’s close energy ties with Moscow paying off?

Data from Russia’s Federal Customs Service shows they might be after Germany paid less for natural gas from the world’s largest exporter than most other buyers. Only the U.K., which produces most of its own gas, had lower import costs among the biggest offtakers, according to the figures obtained by Bloomberg and detailed in the chart below.

Chancellor Angela Merkel has worked to strengthen the energy relationship with Russia, bucking U.S. pressure to punish Vladimir Putin’s interference in Syria and elections across the west. Germany has backed projects such as Gazprom PJSC’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which some other European nations and the U.S. have opposed because it would further increase Russia’s influence in the region.

Germany has the biggest corruption scandal regarding Russian gas. They are just so embarrassed about it that they prefer not to talk about it so people might not have heard.

Their Chancellor Gerhard Schröder closed down their nuclear power stations and killed the Nabucco gas pipeline in favor of the Russian Nord Stream. Right after losing his re-election he was given a board position in a Russia’s Gazprom subsidiary, where he earns the big bucks without really having to do much.

Sounds like Putin has Germany over a barrel pipeline. No wonder they were so quiet on Syria. Almost as stupid as that Muslim invasion they allowed.

Smart of Germany not to be dragged around by our Deep State regarding Syria. I wish Trump would fully tell the Deep State to take a hike too.

Chilly forecast for Merkel’s visit with Trump

No hugs and kisses are expected between the German leader and the U.S. president, who have a cool relationship — but must still work together.

I think President Trump is being held back by threats from Republicans to impeach him.
