Let's not misread the Alabama election last December.

It all came down to turnout.

Here's the results form the Pres Election, Nov 20126:

And the Dec 2017 Special Senate Race:

As you can see, the Trump voters NEVER came out.

Hell, less democrat votes for Doug Jones than Hillary.

The reason so many Alabama Republicans didn't come out to vote was the smear campaign against Moore about the underage or very young women crap.

This had a profound effect on evangelical voters.

They wouldn't say out loud, at least, that the charges disturbed them. But they did, and by not voting, they washed their hands of Roy Moore.

What I find most profound, that leaves me angry to this day?

The Roy Moore accusers all disappeared the day after the election. Not only was the lawsuits stopped, but any story again about them in the media.

Clearly, the driveby's won. Just like with Herman Cain, but not Donald Trump, who is--IMHO--protected by Heavenly Forces.

I think it’s gonna happen. You can only fool people for so long and the dems are out of money. So how will they buy votes. All that is left is massive voter fraud and we need to be watchful for that.

Agreed, and it should happen.

Many of the Iranian people have little in common with the mullahs and for all practical purposes are being held captive.

Zero had a chance in his administration and totally ignored it. If the same chance comes along for Trump he will act.

I think you are right. It was always about the money. No deal was possible with the mad mullahs and I also think kabar is right. This is a place that desperately needs regime change.

Our dichotomy was that the 150 billion "was their money" that had been sequestered since they were and are the worst fomentors of terrorism in the region. It was stupid to give them one thin dime. A better solution would have been to create an Iranian govt. in abstentia. Outside of the country that could then work to give the Iranians the freedom the need.

Turnout is the issue. The Dems have been receiving greater turnouts across the board since 2016, even in their losses.

You can't compare the turnout in a presidential election with an off-year Senate special election. That said, look at the votes for Jones compared to Hillary--674K to 730K. Truly amazing under the circumstances. The Dems over-performed dramatically while the Reps under-performed.

The Reps will regain the seat in 2020, but the damage has been done. Moore was a bad choice regardless of the damage done to him by the MSM. The Reps shot themselves in the foot.

Agree. I was in Iran during the removal of the Shah and the takeover by Khomeini. The mullahs hijacked the Iranian Revolution. The Revolutionary Guard have replaced SAVAK when it comes to administering the police state.

It will be a heavy lift for the Iranian people to displace the Mullahs. It has been almost 40 years since the Revolution. More than half the population has never known anything but the current regime. The most encouraging sign is the attitude of the young. Iran has been hemorrhaging young people, but even those who have stayed behind, want a more secular society. Trump sent a strong message to the Iranian people. I can assure you that it was received loud and clear.

The media won that round with the accusers.

The Republican turnout in non-Presidential elections here are much higher than 2017.

Here is the election results in 2014 in Alabama, where Jeff Sessions was running UNOPPOSED!

UNOPOSSED, he had more than enough to beat Doug Jones numbers.

Unfortunately, too many people seem to believe we can fight antiseptic wars where only the bad guys are killed with no collateral damage. This is the luxury we have now because the wars we have been engaged in since WWII have not been about national survival. Unconditional surrender is no longer an objective.

In WWII we did whatever was necessary to win. We intentionally tried to kill as many civilians as possible during various bombing campaigns. The UK's Bomber Harris comes to mind. The winners decide what is moral and immoral. I never agreed with the Nuremberg War trials and its counterpart for the Japanese. You don't need public show trials to hold people accountable.

I don't see where we disagree. The Dems had a huge turnout and the Reps fell on their face. You can attribute the lack of turnout to the MSM, but the Reps made the mistake of nominating a bad candidate. Mo Brooks was my choice and he came in third. I blame the result on the Reps, not the MSM and dirty tricks by the Dems.

Hillary lost because she was a lousy, lazy candidate. And she had the MSM on her side.
