Capital Gazette takes hit at Trump: 'We won't forget being called an enemy of the people'
The Hill ^ | 07/01/18 | Morgan Gstalter

The staff of the Capital Gazette took a jab at President Trump, days after a gunman opened fired in their newsroom and killed five people.

The staff of the Annapolis, Md., newspaper released a letter on Sunday to thank those who have offered support in the aftermath of the shooting.

“We won’t forget being called an enemy of the people,” the staff wrote. “No, we won’t forget that. Because exposing evil, shining light on wrongs and fighting injustice is what we do.”

Their comment appears to be a thinly-veiled hit at Trump’s use of the phrase to attack members of the media.

Trump has used the term consistently throughout his contentious relationship with the press.

Most recently, Trump rallied against NBC and CNN last month for its coverage of his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“Our Country’s biggest enemy is the Fake News so easily promulgated by fools!” Trump tweeted in June.

The president backed off his criticism of the media one day after the shooting and offered rare praise for reporters.

“Journalists, like all Americans, should be free from the fear of being violently attacked while doing their job,” Trump said Friday at an event to celebrate six months of the GOP tax bill.

CNN’s Jim Acosta shouted at Trump from the back of the room during the event.

“Mr. President, will you stop calling the press the enemy of the people?” Acosta yelled.

CNN later aired a montage on Friday of Trump talking down about the media.

They are butt hurt because President Trump is telling the truth about the agenda driven MSM. They are the enemy of the people.

In the olden days newspaper editors always kept guns at hand to protect themselves from irate readers.

But that was way back.

Twitter and Facebook are the gifts that keep on giving with jernalists these days.

At least three of the slain were Trump-haters.

They should have focused on the real enemy...

Explain what kind of moral argument that is, please? It sounds like an argument by shallow, ill-thought labels to me.

I knew one of the victims and SHE would not have endorsed this crap.

Was that Becca Smith?

She was one of the two who wasn't a Trump-basher.

If it was her, I amend my statement to "THREE less of them to spew hate at President Trump".

Prayers for Becca Smith and her family.

None of the dead were “’Trump bashers”
One was a local sports editor, 3 wrote community news and human interest features, one was a newly hired advertising manager

“We won’t forget being called an enemy of the people,” the staff wrote.

Wow. Yeah, guys, that is why you were shot.

I still feel sympathy for them, but going after Trump like this needs to end now. Trump didn’t call for you guys to be shot. I really don’t think it’ll help your cause by attacking the President.

I wonder how many weeks before The Newseum in Washington DC has a new exhibit. “The Capital Gazette, Journalist murder in the age of Trump.”

I give it 3-4 weeks.

BTW, if you visit DC, skip the Newseum. It’s the most expensive museum in town and nothing but a self-aggrandizing “look at us and how special we are” tribute to brave journalists.

Don’t waste your time. I did it for you. Go to the Museum of the Bible instead

Printing DNC talking points is not being a friend of the people. Continually deceiving the people is being an enemy of the people.

The president did not make a loon go off. But keep up the lies. Reminds me of the media blaming Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and others for that nut in Tucson. I wonder if the Capital Gazette did that as well.

That is just snarky. Whosoever made his way into the offices of the Capital Gazette had NOTHING to do with Donald Trump, and they knew it, but this was just Trump Derangement Syndrome boiling out from an otherwise unsuspected source.

You'd better scrub the Twitter pages of Wendi Winters, John McNamara and Rob Hiassen before you try selling that load here...

If they stop reporting fake news then they will stop getting called out for it.

Here is there reasoning.
If someone robs a bank and you know who they are then you can’t turn them in because they might get shot by the police.

In this case this attack has nothing to do with Trump so Trump is irrelevant anyways.

They were not killed because of politics!

They were killed by a delusional nut who had a grudge against the Capitol since 2012 because a feature reporter revealed his dark dysfunctional cyber stalking tactics and his rejection by the victim he chose

And maybe against journalism in general since he admired the Charlie Hebdo attack

None of them were even involved in his lawsuit
Doubt they ever saw this coming
