Sen. Ted Cruz: Mike Lee is the best choice for the Supreme Court
Fox News ^ | 7/5/2018 | Ted Cruz

Posted on 07/05/2018 12:31:24 PM PDT by conservative98

President Trump is scheduled to announce one of the most important decisions of his presidency on Monday: the name of his second nominee to the Supreme Court, to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.

This will be a defining moment for President Trump’s legacy. Every president is remembered for his nominations to the Supreme Court – and not always positively.

Past Republican presidents have repeatedly nominated justices who failed to live up to the principles they were selected to represent. For example, President George H.W. Bush’s selection of liberal David Souter was one of the most consequential errors of his presidency.

Indeed, many of the worst liberal judicial activists, including William Brennan, John Paul Stevens, and Harry Blackmun – the author of the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide – were appointed by Republican presidents. These mistakes haunt the legacies of presidents, a specter they can never shake. We cannot let this happen again.

Most presidents are forced to gamble on a nominee they do not truly know – someone who has spent a lifetime outside the public eye. Presidents must pore over the thinnest bodies of evidence on these people, trying to discern their convictions and ability from scattered cases and the recommendations of others. It’s a risk, when what a president really needs is a sure thing.

President Trump, however, has lucked out. He has a sure thing, battle-tested, ready, and willing to serve: Sen. Mike Lee.

No, Lee did NOT vote for Trump and made a HUGE deal about how he had voted for McMuffin and a "PROTEST VOTE"! He and Teddykins are both garbage!

And for the still butthurt and de3lusional Cruzites, here, they need to stop drinking the Cruz-Aid and wake up!

I think Lee would be a solid pick. Only problem I see is he stabbed Trump in the back rather than declaring he supports Trump after Trump won the nomination.

I guess we can say elections have consequences.

Lee made a big stink about Trump and now it's come back to bite him in the backstabbing ass.

Proving he's not too bright and that alone should eliminate him from the SC.

“”Too Mormon for starters.” May as well add Catholics to the list too “

Yeah, as one who was raised a Mormon, you don’t want them as judges, and at the moment the SCOTUS has FIVE CATHOLICS AND ONE EPISCOPALIAN, so nix the Catholics too.

I think, with so much on the line, that Donald Trump should just vote his conscience. ;-)

I agree with Ted that Lee would be a GREAT choice. So would he. But right now, we need them both in the Senate.

I could look beyond that if they were the only good choices available. but they’re not.

Who would take his place in the Senate?

Could that person win reelection?

Mike Kennedy, who just ran in the primary against Mittens? he’s not Lee, but he’d be a solid conservative vote.

But they’d probably decide to play politics and appoint Mia Love.

Kiss of death recommendation. Lee will now, if he was to ever be seriously considered, not be. Besides he is a Never Trumper, voted against Trump, has ethics issues, and should be lucky to have a continued seat in Congress. Thanks Lyn’ Ted.

He and Trump speak regularly on the phone and in personal meetings. Who do you think gave him the idea to pick Gorsuch? Ted is a Trumper.

The Federalist Society has been doing Trump's jurist research. How Trump behaves towards Cruz is no proof whatsoever of how Trump regards him at the bottom line. Great executives set aside their feelings about a person to use the skills of the people in front of them to get the jobs they has in front of them done. Executives are taught how to do this in expensive seminars; Trump probably learned it at Wharton or from experience. Even Thomas Jefferson wrote about this technique.

Because Trump is relating to Cruz collegially does not mean all is well; it just means Cruz can suck up for a little longer while. But it doesn't mean they have reconstruced unqualified respect or trust.
