Muzzleloaders Now Targeted by “Giffords” Gun Prohibition Lobby
NRA/ILA ^ | 11/17/2017

......

Close on her heels this week was the recently-rebranded “Giffords” gun control consortium, which released a report that used the current debate over firearm legislation to … well, advocate for gun bans, too. But the Giffords report went well beyond the usual gun control talking points in extending its attack all the way to muzzle loading firearms. From the modern to the archaic, no gun is safe from the newly-emboldened prohibition lobby. ....(snip).... Semiautomatic carbines that use detachable magazines must go, they say, because they can fire too many (relatively small) rounds too quickly.

But muzzleloaders -- which fire one shot at a time and must be laboriously loaded through by hand down the barrel – can deliver what “Giffords” calls “a particularly lethal .50 caliber round” and are therefore unacceptable as well.

I’ve got a .50 caliber assault flintlock in the safe. If I put it in rapid fire mode I get about 1 round per minute out of it. It also produces a cloud a camo smoke so nobody can see me.

More liberal ignorance. Hide your 12 gauge shotgun because a slug from that is approximately .69 caliber.

With my .44 cal replica Colt and Remington cap & ball black powder revolvers I can fire six shots in a few seconds, but it does take a while to reload them.

Less than 6 seconds if you don’t grease the cylinders and manage to innate chain-fire.
I do not recommend trying it though...

When is the last time a crime was committed with a muzzle loader?

A few years ago, I broke the ramrod.

Replacement ramrods are widely available. I use a fiberglass ramrod for loading and keep the wooden original for looks.

Well. It turns out that .50 caliber round ball only weighs 184 grns, about the same as your single shot 30-06 that is traveling at 2500 FPS.

Ban every gun! ‘Cause we can’t do the math!

A number of years ago in, I think California,, a homeless person shot another homeless person in a tent with a cap & ball revolver. I don’t believe anyone has been shot with a .50 cal muzzle loading rifle in many decades.

I suppose a .68 would scare the pants of them.

.766 caliber Second Land Pattern Brown Bess muskets would leave with empty tummies and full panties.

Yes I have noticed the local Walmart sells them but only in the Fall, Noticing that they cleared out all the black powder stuff after hunting season, I waited hoping to get one on the cheap.

Unfortunately I keep missing them. Guess I will have to break down and buy one at regular price. I am thinking of giving it to my Grandson and letting him worry about it.

Of all the black powder guns I used to own, I think an inexpensive Kentucky Pistol was my favorite. It was just plain fun to shoot.

My favorite is an 1851 Navy revolver in .36. Just plain fun to shoot. Very accurate.

I used to buy those in kit form from places like Dixie Gun Works for about 30-40 bucks in the 1970’s.
