Why is China so Protectionist?
Because the Economy IS the State. The Govt IS the economy. Owns it.
And it wants to spend enough to Bluff the World into bowing down to it.
It can’t Afford to keep militarizing and its reason for being IS to militarize.
Competition would kick their bloated Party and Military into the gutter.
there never was going to be a ‘trade war” ... Trump knew the EU would have to cave and it took only a couple of weeks at that ... the leftist fake stream media is besides themselves that Trump won bigly and quickly, and that none of their BS fear-mongering about the U.S. economy being destroyed by Trump’s tariffs and ‘trade wars’ will come to pass ...
instead, these kinds of big wins on truly fair trade are going to be yet another YUGE factor in further super-charging the U.S. economy, putting YUGE pressure on employers to pay better wages and to treat American workers as precious commodities ...
The EU thinks they are going to finesse him.
It won’t work.
There is NO WAY the EU will give up tariffs. NO WAY.
Their will must be crushed first.
Love that meme.
Will the never Trumper republican voters admit they were wrong? As someone pointed out here, Trump is NOT a careerist politician. He does things so differently it gives the old class of politicians a heart attack. He jumps onto twitter, raises doubts about an agreement, only to land an agreement to work to no tariffs.
Yep. We are getting a third trade alternative - FAIR TRADE. It boggles the mind of the elites.
I put China in a different category, because we are nowhere close to free trade. When China stops using prison labor, stop stealing US tech, and has to meet higher quality standards, THEN it will be fair.
I have to ask why Reagan drunk the Pro-China koolaid that Nixon started America on?
I agree with the 1st part of that, and also about the tech theft. However, the vast majority of Chinese labor is not "prison labor", or "forced", etc. Very much IS still under conditions no US worker would accept (pay aside) -- that is changing, but slowly.
As for higher quality, THAT is up to US consumers. At least some Chinese companies CAN make high quality products -- for example, back when I was involved in sourcing such, one of their mfgrs. of ceramic magnets just simply made better and more consistent magnets than any of the US mfgrs. Our customers were quite demanding, and the consistency issue in particular was a big deal.
Others have listed more advantages the Chinese have, however, they fail to list advantages WE have, such as a better inland waterway transportation system, less corruption (very big), a society and environment much more conducive to creativity, and more, well, "resourceful" workers is not quite the word I'm trying to think of -- less likely to just be a worker-bee with no imagination? Capable of initiative? This can be truly huge when properly harnessed and encouraged, although, granted, too many in management in the US are too arrogant(?), self-absorbed, or "whatever" to take advantage of it...
Ok, well interesting your take on it. Consumers are not the wisest bunch I would argue, considering some of the crap that sells at dollar stores.
I take your point on prison labor. There was some report that for example those giant blue thumbs you see at sports games were made by prison labor. I am sure you are right, that most is not.
