About halfway through the three-hour siege at Trader Joes in Silver Lake, the wounded gunman, Gene Atkins, looked at one of his hostages, MaryLinda Moss, and told her it was all over for him. I just shot at a cop, he said.
Moss, a 55-year-old artist who exudes calm, feared a suicidal gunman could spark a bloodbath. Through a series of disastrous decisions by Atkins, dozens of strangers had ended up at the grocery store on a hot Saturday afternoon, drenched in fear and surrounded by SWAT teams, helicopters, squad cars and ambulances.

I hope bunnyslippers weighs in. Almost any time Ive ever had insider knowledge of a news report, there was a lot wrong. Id be curious to get a read on that, on this.
Maybe she doesn’t want to keep being reminded of it. Just a thought.

And she’s just as lucky he didn’t blow her head off.
That is a distinct possibility and my apologies if this is upsetting.
If true, a remarkable story. A brave woman who happened to be the right person in the right place at the right time, and did the right thing.
Would that I could do so well should I, God forbid!, ever find myself in similar circumstances.
She did a great job. Kudos to her. Awesome.
She and the male are true heroes!

Pretty sure they already owned up to friendly (no such thing) fire being the culprit.
Moss I remember. She was the one I alluded to was trying to help the gunman with his wounds and negotiating.
I went for the grand opening last Saturday morning. I was hugged by people I had never seen before in my life. Policemen strolled the aisles.
It’s not a pleasant memory but I realiize that you sometimes you’re just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was lucky that the gunman was nit more deadly.
I thank God for every day as there was a young girl who was shot dead that morning.
I’m fine. I ran into Moss several times over that evening and the next few days. We were lucky were were not hurt.
He gave up and we survived. I am a lucky woman.
Yes You’re lucky and Blessed!
The Seige clarifies the
Fragility of life and
How Precious it Is!
I hope You’re settled in to
You’re New Home.
