Thank you for link. Best thing I have experienced by Peterson. He is incredibly accurate and coherent in what he says. And he is logical. What a relief from his usual idea salad.

He accurately describes the problem with perception and his statement of the result of same imposing on us a will to power is also true IMO.

What he seems to have missed is the classic philosophical answer to the perception issue, that of Moderate Realism. I myself have hopped around with the discomfort that can arise when one dead ends at skepticism and power as operative ideas. I find great solace in Moderate Realism and Aquinas and Mortimer Adler as good sources for understanding it.

You don’t know who Jordan Peterson is?

Sorry, I don’t.

Well, then, you are in for a real treat.

I (and others) have posted a bunch of his videos here at FR (Jordan Peterson keyword search). And check him out on youtube.

Just my opinion, of course, but Peterson is the real deal.

He is "deconstructing" the Left and its obsession with Socialism/Marxism/PostModernism.

He defines those "isms" carefully and explains why they are destined to fail.

In the end, all he is doing is telling the truth from the point of view of common sense.

But the truth is poison to Liberals.

I can promise you that you have many fun and rewarding times ahead in watching Peterson's video.

I would envy you, but I am still doing the same thing (i.e. hiking up the the Peterson learning curve).

You 2 the kind of conservatives the Left loves.

The one’s that criticize anyone else on the right that’s out there fighting the good fight. Two years ago Peterson was out on his own campus arguing with small groups of students about individual rights vs. collective rights. He’s in the arena fighting, and you’re criticizing his efforts.

Hi.

“. I figured he had finally gotten to the end of the internet, and this was the very last thing on it.”

I got to the end of the internet once. It was scary. Laz was there.

Thanks for your reply. I do not think that Peterson would entertain any metaphysical discussion that did not directly bear on the individuals he is trying to help and their very real problems. He is tackling the notions that young people have related to him, they having been influenced by the formal education establishment culture.

You have been reading Aquinas, etc. on your own time to find answer to your own questions. Your point about moderate realism, please correct me, would be interesting in direct debate with a post modernist teacher or writer, but how would it help a college student attending one of these lectures?

(Thanks for any of your insights and yours is the last word after this.)

Appreciate your thoughts. I am not one who needs to have last word, but would accept your decision.

To cut to chase, why would a person who has reflexively bought into the PC culture, relativism subjectivism, existentialism and skepticism need the knowledge of moderate realism?

Because, in my experience, they are floundering for meaning and purpose and understanding even when they are not aware of it.

The do not need a deep analysis of Moderate Realism, but just the awareness which Peterson talks about that some perceptions just work better than others..

Nobody has time to live and experience ever thing that works.

So just an explanation that , yes perceptions are not infallible, but some perceptions, taught as conventional wisdom of Western thought have worked. They are as objectively true and most capable of being reasoned from than all other perceptions currently out there competing. Putting the correct name on that approach of Moderate Realism would at least plant seeds of order instead of the social chaos now exploding. But it up to people like Jordan Peterson to do this. Typing one finger on phone with rotten eyesight not best, but here is.

His videos do presume a certain level of cogent thought on the part of the viewer. But as I mentioned, his ideas and the way he expresses (distillation) complex concepts, makes him very accessible. Genius is overused, but JDP is an iconiclast in the world of pf academia.
