If campaign money was not used it was not a campaign finance violation. It was a private contract between two parties.

I’d swap the word “admits” for the word “claims”.

I do hope the investigation into Mueller, Comey, McCabe, Hillary, Obama, Lynch, et all is going just as vigorous.

Oh wait!

It doesn’t matter at this point. They’ll use it to jam open an investigation and target the president directly - subpoena all his records and then get him for something unrelated.

This is the day that the US fell. When attorney client privilege no longer means anything - when the rule of law is subverted for purely political purposes then we no longer have a nation of laws.

If they will do this against the most powerful people of the nation think what they’ll do to us peons.

"If campaign money was not used it was not a campaign finance violation. It was a private contract between two parties. "

Try explaining that to the (at least) 50% of uneducated sheeple that vote (D).

Let's see what the actual, details are re:

"admits to making illegal payments at direction of candidate to influence election"

So this is why there isn’t further “cooperation” being required of Cohen. They’re trying to implicate Trump in a campaign finance violation through Cohen’s plea.

Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen pleads guilty, admits to making illegal payments at direction of candidate to influence election
Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer and fixer for President Donald Trump, has struck a plea deal with federal prosecutors, NBC News reported on Tuesday.
Cohen came under investigation by federal prosecutors in New York City earlier this year. They had received a referral from special counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
Prosecutors had been eyeing Cohen’s business dealings. The New York Times reported that federal authorities were looking into $20 million in loans for taxi businesses linked to Cohen.

Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer and fixer for President Donald Trump, agreed to plead guilty on Tuesday to eight counts related to tax fraud, excessive campaign contributions, making false statements to a financial institution, and unlawful corporate contributions at a court hearing in New York on Tuesday.

“Two of those counts appear to relate to Trump directly. Cohen admitted on Tuesday to making payments to two women at the direction of an unidentified candidate for political office. Those payments, Cohen said, were made to influence the outcome of the election.”

Hypothetical. Assume the allegations are all true. 1a) Trump had an an affair before running for office. 1b) Clinton had an affair while in office. 1a) Trump directed a payment to silence Stormy prior to running for office, which violates campaign laws, since the purpose was to keep Stormy from influencing the campaign. 1b) Clinton committed perjury to try to keep his affair secret.

They didn't impeach Clinton. They sure better not impeach Trump.

Any payment a candidate or his campaign makes is intended to influence the election.

The wording here is meant to jolt readers, but it seems silly under logical review.

If Donald personally paid an attorney to make a payment for someone to sign an NDA, it is not illegal. Furthermore, paying someone to go away, whether she is telling the truth or not, is admittedly to keep it out of the headlines and influence his electability. This is not illegal.

The only thing I wonder is if they are going to claim Donald’s payments to Cohen were for fees, not reimbursement for the payments. Therefore the payments were campaign contributions. IF that is their position and IF Donald directed the payments to be mad, you could argue he directed someone to break campaign finance laws. That doesn’t pass the logic test either. Cohen most assuredly didn’t spend his own money.

“Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress”

US Constitution, Article II, Section I

NY state law alone controls with respect to Mr. Cohen.

“Office Statewide Family Limit

“Total number of registered voters in the state, excluding voters in inactive status, multiplied by $0.025.”

http://www.elections.ny.gov/CFContributionLimits.html

~10 million NYS Presidential voters alone

http://www.elections.ny.gov/NYSBOE/elections/2016/General/2016President.pdf

At about 10 million voters, that’s $250,000.

$130,000 just isn’t sufficient to cause Mr. Cohen (or Mr. Trump) to have to worry.

So, facing decades or more of time in the slammer, Cohen signed a piece of paper drawn up for him by the people hunting Trump, which piece of paper claims that Cohen paid off a sleazebag pornstar for Trump to influence the election.

I’d put just as much credibility in a “confession” extracted from someone who was tortured. What we have here is compulsion, and what you get from compelling someone else is what you WANT, not the truth.
