Hundreds of Millions of U.S. Guns are Unlicensed and Untraceable

Hundreds of Millions of U.S. Guns are Unlicensed and Untraceable

In the hysteria about 3D printed guns, the words “unlicensed and untraceable” are thrown about promiscuously and irresponsibly. They are used to imply disaster is upon us, that some new scary threshold has been breached.

They are scare tactics based on ignorance. Most of the 400 million plus firearms in the United States are unlicensed (unregistered) and untraceable.  It has been that way for decades, hundreds of years. It has not made a significant difference in the crime rate. It will not make a significant difference in the future. Separate from gun licensing, there are background checks at retail purchase for most guns in the United States. Only a few states require background checks on private sales of guns. Background checks do not make a difference.

The number of guns in a state do not predict homicide rates or violent crime.

“Unlicensed and untraceable” is scary only if you think most guns are “licensed (registered)” and that “traceability” has anything to do with preventing crime.

National registration of guns has been illegal for decades. Only a few authoritarian states require registration of firearms. Those states are California, Hawaii, Maryland, and New York. The registration schemes in Hawaii and California apply to all guns. The requirements for registration of long guns are fairly recent.  Most guns that were unregistered before registration was required remain unregistered, and are grandfathered in. New York required registration of handguns only. Recently they required registration of some semi-automatic rifles. The law has been ignored by over 80% of the people affected.

Registration, licensing and CCW permitting are, to me, all infringements. Is it just me? 🤔🍿🍻🇺🇸

And so it should be. It is the only check and balance against a corrupt government.

Make no mistake, this is WHY the Deep State will stop short of actually impeaching Trump.

They know it would trigger a CW 2.0 which they would never be able to win.

My WWII dad told me Hitler used shoeboxes, SHOEBOXES full of gun registrations to comfiscate guns and round up firearms owners.

Now the NSA and pals probably know how many times we thought of cleaning a particular firearm.

NEVER REGISTER YOUR GUNS!

He warned me, he accurately predicted many things but not that.

I am reading again THE WASHING OF THE SPEARS by Morris, a history of South Africa.
In the 1870s, blacks were working for a year to get one item as pay, a firearm. The British government was so alarmed they passed “Registration “laws to control the firearms.

When the blacks brought in their guns to register them, the guns were confiscated, and were returned so damaged they could not be used.
Morris states that the people realized, REGISTRATION MEANS CONFISCATION.

I remember the photo of an Indian flaunting a full auto AK-47 at the Wounded Knee standoff in 1976. AK-s were not imported until around 1981, and the one he flaunted was NOT a Valmet.

***IRS Personal Property Inventory Squads***

When FDR confiscated GOLD, it became illegal to open a bank safety deposit box without a Government agent present to confiscate anything shiny.

Always remember that the 1968 Gun Control Law was based on the Nazi Weapons Act of 1938. Thomas J Dodd, had a copy of the Nazi law.

In my state, the law is explicit that there is no paperwork requirement when transferring ownership of a firearm between spouses, or to child or grandchild.
= = =

In Calif, such a transfer is an “Intra-Family” transaction.

No FFL, Background check, or 4473 is required.

However, within thirty days, that transfer must be reported by the receiving party to the state DOJ using the “Report of Operation of Law or Intra-Familial Firearm Transaction” form, (and a fee of $19, I think).

Plus a FSC (Firearms Safety Card-$25 for 5 years), and be at least age 18.

Remember the time when Americans were truly a Free People?

I still wish my Dad had bought me the WWII German Anti Tank Rifle tat I saw advertised in the back of a Magazine. It was a bit expensive at the time, $179 as I recall.
