The Air Leak on the ISS May Have Been Deliberate
Popular Mechanics via yahoo.com ^ | September 4, 2018 | Avery Thompson

Late last week, the astronauts aboard the International Space Station woke up to some distressing news: There was a leak somewhere on the station, and air was escaping into space. After an extensive search, the leak was finally found and plugged with tape and gauze, and the air pressure inside the station has been stabilized.

But now that the crisis has passed, there’s a new concern for the astronauts and the space agencies that manage the station. How exactly did that hole get there in the first place? At first, the theory was that a stray micrometeorite collided with the station and punctured a hole in the wall, but examination of the hole itself suggests that it was made by human hands, perhaps deliberately.

Looking at a photo of the hole, it looks less like a puncture caused by a small meteorite and more like a hole that was purposefully drilled. That's not just a layman's observation either. Dmitry Rogozin, the Director General of Russia’s space agency Roscosmos, suspects that the drilling was done with the intention of causing a leak. “There were several attempts at drilling,” he said in televised comments, by a “wavering hand.”

Just using it as a generic term. The thought of one of them going crazy in space is kinda scary.

OK. My mistake. And yes, VERY scary. Few people on earth (or off) have had such extensive psych workups.

Try enlarging the pic. It’s stampings alright. Also looks like whatever made the hole started from the other side.

I don't see it. I can almost convince myself it is characters in some unknown language, but it keeps popping back into drill bit chatter.

We need a better image.

Measure at least twice in space, drill once.

Yep - or you have someone saying, "I don't understand it; I drilled this hole three times and it's still too big."

I was being serious when I Posted this the other day.

Time for a Psychological evaluation on the Crew hopefully without their knowledge.

I would also keep 1 American and 1 Ruskie awake while others sleep and change Watches for 24 hour Security.

Someone is trying to kill everybody else.

My bet is 1 is KGB and has been ordered by putyboy to kill American Astronauts because of Political crap with the USA...

A 2mm hole ?

Strip search for a 2mm drill bit.

Spacecraft structural materials are as thin as possible to save weight. JB Weld probably would make for a stronger repair.

There is a picture of the hole at the link. It is obvious that the metal is thick enough. I can’t believe how many people here try to dream up some excuse why what I said would not work. They are all so lame.

The drill user wasn’t anchored well enough to drill and as you suggest skipped the bit ....... gauze and tape ?? Seems a tap and a fine thread machine screw with some loctite may have been a better fix....... buts its allegedly in the soyuz versus the ISS. Guess it’ll be studied ...... our serious wild ass guess (SWAG) contribution aside.
