I don't normally put these in "news" but 500 high paying jobs in Kentucky is an exception to the rule.

Especially in Bullitt County...

Not dirt poor like in Eastern Ky. Just not much going on business-wise. Most people work in Jefferson County.

My grandparents lived in a rural area about 5 mi E of Lebanon Junction.

500 tech jobs will be HUGE

Just curious.

I don’t know any details on this project but having been involved in some development projects I am reasonably certain that there were property tax abatements, impact fee waivers and various government commitments regarding surrounding infrastructure. A plum project like this doesn’t happen because Bullitt County has a good KFC. The package of taxes and fees that local governments have on the books is “sticker price.” Nobody pays sticker price.

I can tell you this. It doesn’t bloody work. NYS has spent billions of taxpayer money and Upstate is still a freaking wasteland.

I can’t find a single article talking about whether or not the company received any bribes...er, incentives to site there. If he company did get money to site there, I bet local and county taxpayers will be in for a rude surprise. And ain’t it interesting that media outlets are not covering the incentives angle. Go figure.

It doesn’t work in New York because the politicians are corrupt idiots giving away the store for “green jobs” manufacturing pixie dust and unicorn farts. Reliably conservative counties do this all the time. They are successful because they pursue real jobs like these.

No, h, it doesn’t work because the bribes aren’t never ending. Because prospective employees don’t get the same breaks so finding personnel is still an issue in places families don’t want to live. Because tax breaks have to be paid for and states can’t print money. There are exceptions for companies with political juice and/or that suck off the government teat. If this company is one of those, it might stick around longer. But if I’m a prospective employee, I’d be renting, not buying if I’m hired.

It’s part of the game. Do you want the nice manufacturing plant? Do you want it more than the city two states over? If you don’t make an offer, you stay poor and the new jobs go somewhere else. Play that way consistently, and your residents with skills go somewhere else too. Then you’re left with a community of unemployed and unemployable welfare leeches. You may not like the game, but if you are a business looking to cut costs and a local government looking for jobs, you play it.

Get rid of H-1B so AMERICANS can get those jobs and not foreign nationals.

Pard, why do you think people are fleeing NYS? What the heck good do tax breaks for your employer do if you can’t afford to live where the job is?
