AUSTIN, Texas (KTRK) -- Some Willie Nelson fans are seeing red after learning the country musician will be headlining a rally for Democratic Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke.
Dozens of people weighed in on Willie's Facebook page Wednesday after he shared a story about the upcoming rally in Austin.
While some people told Willie he needs to stay out of politics, others threw insults at the music legend. Still others applauded Willie's contribution to the 2018 campaign.
The event is set for Sept. 29 at Austin's Auditorium Shores.
Nelson is scheduled to perform alongside Joe Ely, Carrie Rodriguez, Tameca Jones and Nelson's sons, Lukas and Micah Nelson.
If you're interested in seeing the show, tickets are free but an RSVP is required.
O'Rourke is hoping to unseat incumbent Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in November's election.
I would not look to him for federal income tax advice either.

I never have, nor ever will care, what anybody else’s politics are unless they are up for a judgeship or other major political appointment. uber-patriot or raving Marxist, good album or other product I’ll buy it, if it sucks I won’t. I agree. Smoking has ruined his voice. He can’t hold a note, and he rushes through a phrase with his limited wind and then waits until the music catches up before rushing through the next phrase.
Willie loves his IRS loving Dems but the IRS doesn’t love him back. As for Beto a vote for Mr. Personality is a vote for Schmucky Schumer’s Lieberal agenda and Bravado Beto will be a bridled young donkey in DC.
Willie is someone only a Texan could understand. Our gift to the world you could say. If you took ol’ Willie too seriously then you have had your chain yanked.
Over the years, Texans have enjoyed watching fellow Texans like Lyndon Johnson, Kinky Friedman, and other assorted characters ply their trade on the unsuspecting public.
Willie has an image to uphold. Willie just wouldn’t be Willie if he didn’t smoke dope and gave a damn.
Remember Willie’s an entertainer, not a politician. Beto and Willie, both have something in common. Both are yanking your chain.

I never saw Willie’s appeal as far as his singing. Even I can sing better than he can. Unfortunately, I’m not as sloppily groomed or as ugly. I guess that’s what’s in these days.
Marijuana turns users into lefties. O’Rourke is also pushing the legalization message a lot. We’ll find out after the election if most Texas voters have become commie potheads. Hopefully not.
I guess we’ll find out in November if Willie was successful in yanking our chains or not. If Texas goes blue and we lose a senate seat (and perhaps control of the senate as a result), I’m going to give a good deal of credit to Willie for using his celebrity status to help Beto’$ campaign.
And for the record, I do NOT like having my chain yanked. Never held LBJ or Kinky in high esteem. Add Willie to that list. I sincerely wish none of them were associated with Texas. Does that disqualify me from being Texan?
