Cruz intern arrested near Capitol for unregistered ammunition

An intern in Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) Washington, D.C., office was reportedly arrested on Capitol Hill this week for possessing unregistered ammunition.

U.S. Capitol Police told CNN in a statement that officers responded to a “dispute” between the intern, Scott Frantz, and another individual in Franz’s car near the Capitol.

Police found shotgun shells in the back of Frantz’s vehicle and arrested him, according to the report reviewed by CNN.

The 20-year-old was charged with possession of unregistered ammunition, a violation of D.C. firearm and ammunition possession restrictions.

An aide for Cruz told CNN that Frantz has been placed on leave. A spokeswoman for the senator said the office does not comment on “pending law enforcement or personnel matters."

The Hill has reached out to Cruz’s office for comment.

“Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against - then you’ll know that this is not the age for beautiful gestures. We’re after power and we mean it. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and you’d better get wise to it. There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Rearden, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”

David Gregory on Meet the Press had an ILLEGAL 30 Round AR-15 Magazine in his Possession.

A Producer on the Show did a Straw Buy of the Magazine outside of DC, transported it to the NBC Studio in DC and ILLEGALLY Transferred it to Gregory.

No Charges were ever Filed against Gregory, the Producer or NBC for allowing the ILLEGAL Magazine Transfer to happen in their Studio.

Well, Badger, after all, you DO remember that it’s in the Constitution that you have to register ammo, and...

Wait...

It’s NOT in there???

Oh. Never mind...

This should actually help Cruz

It would if they hadn't "been placed on leave".

Sounds like the laws in Mexico, you can go to jail there just for having ammo too.

Sounds like a set up to me. Planted ammo.

Planted or otherwise, what does that have to do with anything. It's shotgun shells. Totally, Constitutionally legitimate to have.

In Californica, ammunition will soon be required to have serial #s. Not kidding.
= = =

Don’t think so.

Are you confusing this with a requirement that firearms micro stamp the cartridge case of fired ammo with a number unique to the firearm?

I’m no expert on DC firearm law. But the reference I found implied that what ammo you could possess was linked to the DC gun permit you had. The reference said 21 as if it were for all firearms, but maybe I misread it, or the discussion was incomplete.

Yep... You are right on track on..

“There are certain classes of people who are permitted to possess ammunition in DC. A person in DC who wants to buy a firearm must first get a registration for that firearm. Once they have a registration for the firearm, they are allowed to purchase or be in possession of ammunition, but only ammunition of the same gauge and caliber as their registered firearm. For example, a person with a valid registration for a 12 gauge shotgun cannot be in possession of or purchase nine-millimeter ammunition that goes to a pistol. The type of ammunition someone purchases must correspond to the firearm that is registered in DC to that person.”

It’s DC, sort of like NYC, SF or Austin on steroids.

The one I heard recounted with glee this morning by Bill Handel proposes that all ammunition sold in California will have an ID number inscribed on it. This isn’t the current law that is just now going into effect, it is a newly proposed bill by one of the latino communists who control the Cal Democratic Party. Probably Comrade Kevin De Leon.

What pisses me off is Willie is giving a free concert to raise funds for this phony hispanic!

Why? Willie Nelson, as far as I know has always been a Democrat. I suppose he started out as a Bluedog and has drifted left. He gave a free concert for Jimmie Carter one summer on the White House lawn. Nothing new here I would say.
