Texas State Board of Education votes to erase Hillary Clinton from history curriculum

The State Board of Education in Texas voted on Friday to eliminate several historical figures, including Hillary Clinton and Helen Keller, from the state's social studies curriculum.

Barbara Cargill, a Texas Republican and member of the board, told The Dallas Morning News that "the recommendation to eliminate Helen Keller and Hillary Clinton was made by [Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills] work groups."

"However the board did vote to agree with the work groups' recommendations," Cargill pointed out. "In speaking to teachers and testifiers, they did not mention these specific deletions."

The decision made by the 15-member body reportedly came as part of an overall effort to "streamline" the state's social studies curriculum.

Texas high school students have been required to learn about Clinton after the former first lady made history in 2016 by becoming the first woman to be the presidential nominee of a major political party.

Oh, yes. But that part need not be told in any brief study of her. Not because of any censorship reason, but because it’s not relevant to why she should be studied in the first place.

In a way, it’s like a great inventor who later in life became a alcoholic. The alcoholic part is probably not relevant.

No, her story should be told warts 'n' all, as is done with all historical figures on the right.

But then again, if she had been an outspoken supporter of Robert A. Taft, Joe McCarthy or Barry Goldwater instead of being a Marxist-Leninist, Helen Keller would today be unknown.

I excelled in Civics throughout my schooling. I attended 3 different high schools and had civics taught in every grade.

We learned about court, mostly. Mock trials and the like. What I learned in Civics makes me foam at the mouth at how things are handled today.

Government probably doesn’t want to teach civics because then everyone will know how terrible they are.

They are afraid including her in the curriculum might cause real discussion and diversity of ideas to be discussed, learned, known and become the majority understanding of the populace.
