Not sure how reliable the source is, but they are also saying that the reason Feinstien wanted the report kept secret is that the FBI was leaked some emails from media/DEMS talking about the allegation shit show they coordinated to muck the confirmation process. The income is not taxable if it is a pure gift (i.e. made without the expectation of getting anything in return, like stock or merchandise). If the “pure gift” is more than $15,000 to one Go Fund Me account in any calendar year, the DONOR has to file a Gift Tax Return (still TF to the recipient).
WRT business-related GFM accounts, the income is taxable to the recipient (unless the donor gets back stock or an interest in a company, in which case it is a tax-free contribution to capital).
In this case, the natural argument is that it is a bunch of pure gifts, so non-taxable. That leaves aside the money-laundering possibilities, which are illegal as Hell without even considering the tax implications (and, BTW, I believe that the income from it in that case WOULD be taxable - money for services - and would result in additional charges if not properly reported.

I think they already got some $500,000 and they figured that was enough. And people were starting to ask questions where all that money came from. Soros? Hillary? ?????
They probably want to wipe the account history off their servers, before some investigation can find out where the money really came from.

Given the fact that so many supermarkets and convienience stores sell them I am willing to see the break in the case unfolding like this....
Some intern/low level employee is given $10,000 to go out and buy pre-paid Visa cards. Thinking “OMG I can get a free tank of gas!” They use their shopper card to award fuel points to themselves with $10,000 worth of cards.
When the cards they buy are traced back to their shoppers card they flip saying they were doing it on behalf of “X” and it wasn’t really their money.
Discovery, it can be a real bitch.

I think it’s pretty obvious they didn’t think about a lot when it comes to this farce. Being the feeble minded morons that they are, they thought the President would quickly withdraw the nomination or Kavanaugh would bow out. Nope.
They never expected this kind of push back and are in a complete panic as to what to do next.
On a side note, as disgusting as this all is, it’s kind of funny watching them one-up each other on their levels of stupidity and lying.
