'We have to rise above partisanship': Two SCOTUS Justices say the reputation of the Court[tr]

The 64-year-old was agreeing with sentiments earlier expressed by Kagan suggesting that the exit of Kennedy could mean the reputation of the Supreme Court suffers.

'It's been an extremely important thing for the court that in the last 40 years, starting with Justice [Sandra Day] O'Connor and continuing with Justice Kennedy, there has been a person who found the center, where people couldn't predict in that sort of way
.
.
.
'That's enabled the court to look so it was not all by one side or another and it was indeed impartial and neutral and fair. And it's not so clear that I think going forward that sort of middle position — it's not so clear whether we'll have it.'

No kidding...couldn’t see fit to recuse herself from the Obamacare decision (deeply involved prior to her appointment) but spouts off about this...she’s a fing hack.

the only one that has remained constantly conservative over the years is Thomas... which just happens to be the last justice the left tried to torpedo with false accusations.

:)

Revenge is sweet for those falsely accused by the left

Maybe I read her bio wrong but Kagan didn't even have experience as a judge in a traffic court before she was appointed to the Supreme Court.

Libs need to look in the mirror occasionally.

She would be better suited to officiating all-woman league softball games or judging taco eating contests, IMHO.

On the contrary, it is not a good thing when we cannot predict ahead of time whether the Supreme Court’s decision will be constitutional, or whether it will be another radical legislation from the bench.

If only we could get a full bench of constitutional judges.

The Court will always have a center, and will always have one or more “swing justices,” unless the Court moves into one or two or more completely monolithic groups that always vote in rigid unison.

The question is whether the appointment of a particular justice moves the Court in one ideological direction or another. The center moves with it.

The Constitution is non-partisan and if we had Justices who would follow it then non-partisanship would follow automatically.

Yes. Let kagan become the swing vote. It is not a president job to nominate a swing vote.

“Present” is still not a “Yes”.

Kavanaugh needs 51 “Yes” votes, otherwise the Dems will paint him as illegitimate. They will try to anyway, but not having 51 makes it easier for them.

Sotomayer is Type I diabetic, and Type I women have an average life expectancy of 68 years, compared to 81 years for non-diabetic women. Sotomayer looks like her health is deteriorating.

Judge Amy Barrett is on the short list to replace Ginsburg. Good enough for you?

Well I hope that Amy Bennet and Amul Thapar have calendars of their high school parties. With Ginsburg’s age and Ms. Latina’s health, we might need them both before the next presidential election.

As a lawyer I and “we” have noted that the Court has been a one man band for quite some time. Before Kennedy others liked that role as the tilter. That makes it a one person body. The final say on all things constitutional! Yes, the executive branch is headed by one man also, but does he have any final say? Just ask that Darth Vader robed twit in Hawaii, or Herr Mueller.

And that is where we will see their hypocrisy and outright hatred in full f*cking effect.

I think that could very well a, if not THE, tipping point in this country.

Their behavior destroys all things. It ruins everything for the rest of us. But, they know that with Judge Kavanaugh on SCOTUS and one or two more, God willing, the President completely changes the path this country has been on since the 60s. And with the unmentioned work he’s doing on the lower courts, the Left knows that it will no longer be able to get their agenda thru by judges legislating from the bench.

They’ll have to actually convince people of what they’re proposing, which is something they cannot do.

GOP got this one through because they stood up and fought for a change. This is the only way to beat the radical left. I warn everyone that the GOP Senate still has plenty of time before the vote to pee their pants, drop their rifles and run for the hills. These guys are cowards and gutless wonders, so don’t count this as a win until the fat lady sings.

"Profiles in cowardice".

She's a Never Trump idiot, and not even a useful idiot. She needs to be primaried (again) in 2022, this time by an experienced candidate. (Sarah Palin is just trolling her. I think.) In the meantime, McConnell should relegate her to the Senate Food Committee.
