30 days training required to have gun at home

The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that the need for the Second Amendment is “most acute” in the home, where “self, family and property” must be protected.

But now Maryland gun regulators are insisting that anyone who wants to defend his home with a firearm must have a month of special training.

A group called Maryland Shall Issue Inc. has filed a lawsuit contending the training requirement violates the Second Amendment.

Arguing a “right delayed is a right denied,” Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation and chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, or CCRKBA, explained the licensing process is “expensive and lengthy.”

His groups are part of a coalition that has filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the case. The coalition also includes the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors and Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership.

“No citizen should have to jump through so many hoops simply to have a gun in their own home,” Gottlieb said. “There were no such requirements or regulations in Maryland at the time the Constitution was ratified, and the current regulatory scheme seems more intended to discourage responsible firearms ownership than guarantee that gun owners safely handle their firearms.”

Gottlieb said the training requirement in Maryland “imposes a burden on a citizen’s ability to exercise his or her Second Amendment rights.”

Really?

Does the months of training I had in the US Army and the MDNG count? Shouldn’t it count?

I harbor no ill-will toward the good citizens of Maryland, but it would be pretty nice if this one goes to the Supreme Court on an appeal, instead of being rightly decided in a lower court... It might “fix” a lot of unconstitutional restrictions.

What part of infringed to these people not understand?

Infringed means interfered with in a minor way; obviously the text of the Second Amendment means that we of course should neither interfere with RKBA in a major way.

Hopefully with the new Supremes we may be getting back to sanity with regard to the 2nd A.

“I own a Glock, what’s a safety?”

In your case Aim, Fire, and repeat if necessary.

I have one, too!

Do you agree with government required training?

Why YES I do. The only problem is the goobermint is untrainable. I can prove this by pointing out how many times a day and how badly they cannot do it. No matter what it is.

Example:
The Department of Redundancy Redundancy Department
Tnemtraped Ycnadnuder Ycnadnuder fo Tnemtraped Eht

The only good commie gun grabber is a dead commie gun grabber.

Not advocating any killing but if they drop dead from natural causes I’d say that’s a huge plus for all Americans.

Exactly that. At some point our NEW USSC should see a rights-restriction case from one of the leftist enclaves float into their view...

I am hopeful that will be the beginning of the end for unconstitutional infringements of the 2nd Amendment.

When concealed carry was passed in my state, there were a number of training requirements. It could be done in one FULL day, though. One of the requirements was a shooting test. I checked it against the shooting test for Police in our City. The number of rounds shot at each distance was the same. However, the passing grade was 50% for Police and 75% for civilians. I passed it, anyway.

You just have to tell the burglar or rapist to wait for about 15-20 minutes while you get your stuff ready. They will understand.

LOL

Scalia was not great on 2nd, he clearly stated that the right to keep was not unlimited. What ever the courts come up with with, it will limit gun rights in some manner, count on it.

Sad to say you are probably right about that. I guess though I feel a little better with Kav than with his predecessor rookies on the court.

In other words we are not losing as much ground as we might.

There are decent areas around and near the Inner Harbor, but I wouldn’t dare go into West Baltimore.

When I first moved to Maryland, I was in a training class in a tall building downtown. We were maybe 10th or 20th story. During a break, I was looking out the window down Baltimore Street. An older black man who was also in the class, of whom I had not met or spoken to previously looked out and said “Even I don’t go there.”

I took his advice.

Dude, this is like from a week ago. Catch up. Or, we may have to make a trip east and infect MD with some more conservatism. LOL! Maybe visit Bethesda Naval Hospital(is it still there?) the place of my hatching.

I own a Glock. What's a safety?

Glock pistols are designed with three independent safety mechanisms to prevent accidental discharge. The system, designated "Safe Action" by Glock, consists of an external integrated trigger safety and two automatic internal safeties: a firing pin safety, and a drop safety.

Your Glock (my Glocks too) has three safeties, and you didn't even know. The important one is released by pulling the trigger. Looks like you need 30 days of training.
