Tapper tears into Trump: He is harsher on Taylor Swift than Saudi Arabia

CNN host Jake Tapper said Friday that President Trump appears to be tougher on singer Taylor Swift than on the Saudi Arabian government

"President Trump has been harsher about Taylor Swift this week than he has about [Mohammad Bin Salman]," Tapper said on CNN's "The Lead," referring to the crown prince of Saudi Arabia.

Tapper's comment came amid reports that Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul earlier this month. The Post reported Thursday that the Turkish government said it has video and audio recordings that prove Khashoggi was killed.

Khashoggi went missing on Oct. 2 after he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to obtain papers for his upcoming marriage.

Khashoggi was known for being an outspoken critic of the Saudi government led by Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman.

Trump has said officials in the U.S., Turkey and Saudi Arabia are "looking very hard and fast" into the situation. He also said before a rally in Ohio on Friday that he will speak with King Salman of Saudi Arabia.

But critics have argued his response hasn't been urgent enough. Tapper's reference to Swift appeared to refer to Trump's comment about the singer earlier this week, which came after he learned that she had endorsed a pair of Democratic candidates.

"Let's say that I like Taylor's music about 25% less now, OK?" Trump said Tuesday when asked about her support of Tennessee Democratic Senate candidate Phil Bredesen.

Trump is facing mounting scrutiny over what his administration will do in response to Khashoggi's disappearance.

If there is any nation on this planet that we should be at war with, it’s Saudi Barbaria.

“Let’s say that I like Taylor’s music about 25% less now, OK?”

Ouch! That is harsh! I’ve never heard such language.

That ‘25%’ means something. CINC doesn’t just throw out numbers with no meaning.

When Swift buys $100 Billion in Boeing products Trump will be a lot more interested in her music. Count on it.

Not so Swift is closing in on 30, her short shorts jumper look is getting rather stale and juvenile. I suspect her maturity level is about the same.

In 1984, Taiwan’s government assassinated an American citizen, who was also a Taiwanese dissident, on American soil.

Did Reagan impose sanctions on Taiwan? In a word, no. I’m not sure which is worse - the media’s freakout, or the freakout among some GOP politicians. I understand why the Turks are unhappy - a weapon in their campaign against the Saudis has been neutralized, whether abducted or killed. And I understand the media angle - Trump is responsible for everything bad in the world. But why are Corker and Graham getting all bent out of shape?

I suspect Donald Trump now likes Saudi Arabia’s music at least 35% less.

This will blow over. If the Saudis did this so blatantly they are either really stupid or Erdogan knew what was going to happen, possibly went along and is now using this to hurt the Saudi- U.S. relationship.

I don’t give Trump as much credit with the media as others because I think he reacts way to much. He watches and talks too much with these partisan clowns. He needs to let it play out and turn off the fake news.
