States With Legal Pot See Increase In Car Accidents, Studies Say
CBS Denver ^ | October 18, 2018

CNN) – The National Transportation Safety Board said Tuesday that the probable cause of a crash that killed 12 people on a church bus near Concan, Texas, in March 2017 was that the 20-year-old man whose truck hit the bus was under the influence of marijuana and a sedative.

In its report, the board says that there has been an increase in the number of drug-impaired drivers across the country and that something must be done about it.

That call to action seems to match up with a report released Thursday from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Highway Loss Data Institute.

I've been in a lot of fights on FaceCrook over this cannabis issue especially from a lot of Jamaicans friends who insist that it's harmless, natural & ok while ignoring tons of evidence to the contrary.

I've personally seen it destroy many lives especially the lives of young people as it serves as a gateway drug leading to harder stuff.

Many times I just wonder just why do I bother warning people about the dangers of these stuff as all I get is a cussing out from them, them hating me, and the equivalent of a "F### Off and leave me alone, as I'll live my life as I see fit"

That makes sad. Lived in Denver for ten years.

I swear, liberals destroy everything they touch. Plus the influx of Californians probably doesn’t help.

I hope you are right, Dr. :)

But yes Canadians tend to obey the law. I don’t want to give out too much information, but my husband works for a federal government agency. And he gets very upset when our son downloads illegal stuff to watch a TV show. :-)

Amazing you increase the number of available intoxicants and you have more intoxicated people driving!

Whodathunk?

And no I don’t support the 18th Amendment!

“I used to smoke pot (now “weed”) and drive, all the time. I don’t “remember” being impaired. /s”

You’d think the accident rate would go down with everyone driving at 5 mph.

I understand. I follow the president on Twitter but invariably the replies are negative. I admire his courage. I can’t stand to go there.

Your statement applies to me without the sarcasm. I was in Denver recently and tried pot for the first time in decades (pot tourist. I guess). No way I could drive afterwards. I would assume quite a few people did as I did and drove straight into an accident.

The efforts of the marijuana lobby over the last few decades have quite successfully removed the bad effects of marijuana from our collective knowledge.

And in those days, the stuff was a fraction of the strength that it is today. Further, far fewer people were using it. I am in Arizona, where only "medical marijuana" is legal. The ads for these "clinics" are like ads for a theme park or popular night club. They promote marijuana in brownies, cookies, pizza, etc. Dermatology clinics never advertise like that.

While I am open to the argument that marijuana may have some legitimate medical purposes, it seems like the Woody Harrelson types take over the argument VERY quickly, and promote a marijuana lifestyle. The epitome of that to me was when I was in a Columbus, Georgia Walmart at 11am, and the fellow in front of me in line was wearing marijuana leaf pajamas and slippers. And yes, he was buying snack food.

My old state of Georgia legalized the CBD oil, which I thought was a reasoned compromise, and sure enough, the Woody Harrelson types trot out reasons why that isn't good enough.

Dudes and ladies, don’t vote to legalize pot because more people will die in traffic fatalities and because the quality of life will be diminished for everyone.

And yes, the risk of lung cancer is great. No different that cigarettes. Actually it is potentially worse because the user holds his breath after toking to increase the absorption of the drug exposing the lungs longer.

Folks — here is a call your bluff post.

For all cannabis growers and producers — make a statement to the public with claims that cannabis, on the record, is harmless.

Then, when it proven that it is harmful, causes cancer and all of the same nasty things that cigarettes cause, you will be on record, like the tobacco companies for misleading consumers about the safety risks of cannabis. I dare you!
