Too late. We already do every April 15. Thanks Government Motors.
The "Big Three" (now the "Big Two") are notorious for trying to shut down any new automobile company by hook or by crook.
All General Motors needs to do is make an electric car that buyers like more than the gas powered ones.
Why do I not see this as an altruistic proposal?
Didn’t Ford announce they are going electric except for trucks and the Mustang? Porsche has announced something similar.
GM wants government to mandate what they could opt to do.
Electric cars butn the same amount of hydrocabons as every other vehicle. - thank you. just one correction, in the rankine cycle, nuke plants arent any better, most of the heat goes out the condenser to the cooling towers or whatever body of water they use, in the form of latent heat of condensation. 37% efficiency is a good number for most steam cycles.
Supposedly we have 400 more years worth of coal for our power plants in the US alone.
Government Motors is as clueless as the ‘rats.
Trying to get the government to help pay off their investments made years ago to please Obozo.
So pollution can be centralized where electricity is produced?

If it's such a great idea, a Soviet-style mandate wouldn't be needed. Blame Michael Moore and Barry Soetero.
If GM wants to play at being government, maybe GM’s board of directors should be chosen through a public national election, with GM footing the bill.
When I see an electric Camaro beat a Shelby Mustang, I will think about buying an electric SUBURBAN that will tow my boat, the family and our camping gear...
The government doesnt have the authority to mandate anything. The foolish ceo of GM has even less. Dont try to make the rest of us pay for your company to meet idiotic California mandates so you can sell cars there.
I wholeheartedly agree. GM wants a mandate so that everyone is forced to risk the same failures at the same time, IOW, it's a survival tactic for GM.
A GM power-train that operates from hydrocarbon fuel, generates electricity in a fuel cell, and powers the wheels with an electric motor, at an overall efficiency of 50%?
Indeed. Both GM and Tesla survive by sucking off the government teat. And they want more.
Meanwhile, the electric car only survives because of government mandates and subsidies. Entropy laughs at our fantasies while our pocketbooks empty.
GM could’ve dominated the electric car market in the early 1990s.
GM has almost used up their federal tax credit quota like Tesla. No wonder they want the government to mandate..
The free market works. And the free market is smart enough to reject a technology that isn’t ready for the free market.
