The Lower Colorado River Authority is providing $100,000 each to Burnet and Llano counties to help the counties recover from recent historic flooding along the Colorado and Llano rivers... "LCRA is very pleased to provide this financial assistance to Burnet and Llano counties to help them clean up after the flood," said Timothy Timmerman, chair of the LCRA Board of Directors. Since mid-October, much of the Highland Lakes watershed has received 10-15 inches of rain, sending an enormous amount of water rushing into the Highland Lakes. At the peak of the flood, flow into Lake Travis was estimated at 375,000 cubic feet per second. That rate of flow would fill up the Astrodome in less than two minutes.

Even little ol' me knew the flood was coming and called neighbors a week earlier to come take their boats out of the water and secure their property.
Granted, the deaths in Junction, TX weren't the LCRA's fault but there were two deaths near us that could have been prevented. Millions in property damage, loss of business, loss of jobs, loss of family homes and their keepsakes is all on LCRA. Businesses are still closed and won't be open for a long time, if ever. Then there was the bridge that was lost so people can no longer get to the grocery store, the post office or to work without driving an hour or so longer.
In the past, we had real live human beings on river watch and we never had the like of floods and frequencies as we do now. Today, we have numbskulls sitting behind a computer screen two hours away in Austin. Back during the '97 flood (again, little ol' me knew before LCRA lifted a finger), almost as high as this one, there were 23 foot flood waters coming at us from the LLano River when the LCRA opened the flood gates on Lake Buchanan so we were hit from both sides. I called the LCRA but they said I was lying because their computers were only showing a 1 foot rise. Uh, hello, a one foot rise at a gauge on a 2 mile dam is not what is going on down river with all that water being pushed into a football field wide river and the dam was not getting the water double whammy with water coming from the opposite direction.
LCRA. Should have lowered Travis by 10’ prior to the flooding.
Way back in 1970s, they lowered LBJ nearly to the bottom so I know it can be done. We kids had fun jumping across it from boulder to boulder.
The LCRA was moronic even then. They had the brilliant idea of lowering it to kill off the bad fish and brought in helicopters to spray poison in the water that remained. Of course, the poison also killed the good fish and poisoned people’s water wells. We got so sick, sick, sick.
You can tell lcra FACTS until You are blue in the face but they wont listen or do anything. A bunch of morons with a budget and control.
$200k is pocket change to them. They made over a BILLION last year.
I remember Travis back around then out by Lago Vista its normally about 2+ miles across and it was down to about 30 and knee deep WAY out at the riverbed center.
It was good for cleanup and resetting dock anchors but that was all. We found engine blocks, sunken boats, fishing gear, You name it.
Don’t remember if that was when they found a woman who’d driven off the old bridge in Kingsland many years before. IIRC, her sewing machine was in the car. She had been taking it to be repaired and missed the bridge somehow ended up right at some guy’s water intake.
