I thought all cops off duty still carried.

Apparently, not ALL the time.

Safest town in the country … security makes people let their guard down.

For once, it seems that someone realized that booze and guns are not a good mix. Except the shooter.

You can thank lawyers, civilian review boards and liberal politicians for that. If one of these guys got involved of a use of deadly force incident off duty, and had a blood draw after and any alcohol showed up, they’d be fired whether or not the shoot was good.

I'm sure that many do. But that is not entirely what is in question here. So, I'll cut to the point. Let's say an off duty cop goes into a bar. Since a blood alcohol level of .08 is considered drunk driving, what blood alcohol level would you be comfortable with if an off duty officer is armed and drinking in a bar?

Those that I hang around do, but then again we don’t go to Bars.

I thought all cops off duty still carried.

My understanding, which is secondhand, was that they are supposed to carry off duty, unless they're going drinking, in which case they're not supposed to carry.

“I thought all cops off duty still carried.”

Most leave it in their car when they know they’re going to get drunk. That way they can drive home drunk with impunity.

In all seriousness, even cops know they aren’t very smart when drunk and don’t want to risk their career over something trivial.

They'd be really stupid not too. Most big city cops who've been around the block have lots of enemies. They've sent people to jail for years at a time. Many of these people directly blame the cops for destroying their lives and vow to get even. Lots of enemies.

Not carrying off duty is just flat out stupid from my perspective..Did it happen here? I dunno.

This was California. They probably aren't allowed.
