Well, shoot, I have an old school friend in Ithaca, NY who is absolutely positive that President Trump is a dictator. Of course, has nothing to back it up except MSNBC and NBC Nightly News which she’s proud to say is the only news she watches. “Don’t you watch FOX?” “Why on earth would I watch FOX?” “Maybe to get a different slant on stories in the news?” Just MAYBE??? I usually let others’ (liberals) opinions slide by but I had to push on that even tho’ I didn’t get anywhere! Well, nothing ventured - nothing gained.

BRAVO - just what I’ve been trying to tell people the president meant when he used the word a couple of weeks ago. How dense does a person have to be to PRETEND he meant something different? Thanks for the article...This needs to go to MSNBC and CNN and the networks...

“” Nationalists feel a bond with their country, and they believe that this bond imposes moral obligations both ways: Citizens have a duty to love and serve their country, and governments are duty bound to protect their own people. Governments should place their citizens interests above the interests of people in other countries.

There is nothing necessarily racist or base about this arrangement or social contract. Having a shared sense of identity, norms, and history generally promotes trust.””

He’s 40. That’s old enough to know better.

Mental age is different from calendar age. Maturity is quite different from just getting older.

polymuser: "This is more proggie Newspeak at work (ala 1984); they want to redefine the word nationalist into something bad."

I first heard that "nationalism" is the root of all evil in high school, many years ago.
Of course I didn't believe it then, but merely note now it's not a new idea, so Macron is just repeating what, no doubt, he was taught as a child.

The truth of this matter is that patriotism and nationalism are synonyms and a sometimes necessary "adrenalin" for any body-politic.
Without it any country can die, but too much at the wrong times can also make a body-politic sick.

Creepy Macron's behavior of putting his paws all over our Pres. right at the start

it was a disgusting display and condescending.....

This continued throughout his visit there.....it's surprising the President didn't

just leave this farce...I would have!

Trump was Not amused and rightly so..

The St Bartholomew Day massacre was in 1572...Aug 24...

Some of my Huguenot ancestors ...another line... fled into Holland after that...

Unless you mean after the Edict of Nantes was revoked in 1685...

Macron is just a puppet of the globalists in the grand scheme of things...that won't change.

Winston Churchill described what socialism is best...

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

I was livid how Macaroon got his paws all over our Pres. right from the get go....he was like a kid trying to butter up his dad when he knows he's been a bad boy. It was sooo childish and fully uncalled for.......Trump was obviously not amused.

Good lord what a nut

That’s an oxymoron for sure

Man those folks who worse snappy uniforms and walked in lines sure made fighting identity based socialism and open borders a harder fight

If nationalism is treason then why Maginot ?

Why WWI and II

Why Dien Ben Phu

Why the Seven Years War

Why the Penninsula war

Why Agincourt

Why Algeria

Why Charlemagne and Martel and Tours?

Why the snooty wine and cheese and baguette appellation boards

Why France?

Let’s call it land mass between the Rhine and Channel

Once the most culturally intact nation in Europe that mattered

The left destroys all that is good and right

Without the United States, Europe would be speaking German or Russian. They seem to have a tough time understanding that especially the French.

Globalism is a form of 'global communism'.. (just ask XI who's licking his chops).. it's relinquishing your sovereignty to an 'unelected' global government.

On the other hand Nationalism means strong, independent sovereign nations that put their own people's best interests first, and then seek to cooperate on mutually-beneficial terms.

Trump's Nationalism is an embrace of Patriotism and the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, ....which of course are NOT compatible with Globalism.

I kept falling asleep during that part of the history class .. too much beer the night before ... so I’m a bit rusty on that period ... suffice to say your ancestors missed the horror.

I think Macron and his fellow travelers are going to lose the next election in a landslide. The French peasant is getting pissed. How can a country that was so fierce in defending the French language let their very country be stolen from them by an invading horde of Muslims.

One more time in French.

Je pense que Macron et ses compagnons de voyage vont perdre les prochaines élections dans un glissement de terrain. Le paysan français s’énerve. Comment un pays qui défendait si ardemment la langue française peut se faire voler son pays par une horde envahissante de musulmans.

True.

A hypocritical thing Dems never mention: China,Japan,Iran, both Koreas,Russia and many more are intensely nationalistic, haughty about their national pride and race pride and totally in favor of their own country coming out number one.

Japanese insult white Americans working in business there and speak Japanese about them as they decide the pro-Japan decision.

Chinese restrict blacks, whites, Japanese and Christians.

Iran allows no one except pro-Iran, pro-religious government people to have any rights.

China,Russia and Korea stage huge patriotic parades with show of military muscle and implication they will destroy any who are not in their country. ALL have anti-American trade fees and restrictions and tariffs to destroy American profits.

All total nationalists.

But only Trump and USA are supposed to make a campfire and sing Kumbaya and I’d Like To Teach the World To Sing. And give away our gun rights and other rights to the United Nations to show our meek cooperation.

No way.
MAGA.

I don’t know whether any died then but I had one who died fighting in the religious wars....late 1500s..two of his sons were Protestants...one became a Catholic priest...the priest pretended the father was still also a Catholic and buried him in a Catholic cemetery...the cemetery was destroyed during the French Revolution when the mobs were destroying anything religious...
