Gun purchasers may need to submit social media history under proposed New York legislation

Those looking to buy a gun in New York may need to submit their social media profiles and search history prior to purchase if new firearm legislation in the state becomes law.

Under the legislation drafted by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and State Senator Kevin Parker, both Democrats, up to three years’ worth of search history on social media would be able to be reviewed, ABC Action News reported.

Senate Bill 9191, according to WHAM, mandates "social media and search engine reviews prior to the approval of an application or renewal of a license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver; requires a person applying for a license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver or a renewal of such license to consent to having his or her social media accounts and search engine history reviewed and investigated for certain posts and/or searches over a period of 1-3 years prior to the approval of such application or renewal; defines terms." Under the proposed legislation, law enforcement officials could investigate "commonly known profane slurs used or biased language used to describe race, national origin, ancestry, gender, religion, disability or sexual orientation; threatening health or safety of another person, or an act of terrorism."

It is not that bad here. Yet.

I don’t intend to go anywhere.

But have some reloading to do.

“What if the applicant does not have a Facebook or Twitter account?”

You mean like me? I vowed long ago to never use social media. For several reasons:

1. My opinion really isn’t that important. Want to know where I stand? Listen to El Rushbo, Mark Steyn or Tucker Carlson. Those who want to blog their opinions, I say have at it but know that there really is a Big Brother out there using technology that Orwell could not have dreamed of in 1948.

2. Inviting the world to view your private thoughts seems like a no-brainer to avoid. Too much information and now it’s going to be monitored here like the fascist Brits are doing, arresting people who criticize Islam on social media. On that point I rest my case.

3. Of course, Free Republic is monitored. The govags already know what I think of Muslims, progressives, gun grabbers, and protected classes if you get my drift.

4. New York is one of several states requiring FOID for gun owners. This bill will change issuance from shall issue to may issue overnight.

5. Couple that with Red Flag turn-in-your-neighbor laws in blue states, and you have East German style despotic rule, only that surviving Stasi agents must be green with envy at modern means of spying on citizens.

We are rapidly becoming divided into free and unfree states. To test this hypothesis, drive into Maryland or New Jersey with a Mississippi license tag.

Earliest I could find for my kin folk was an immigrant from Denmark around 1630 to the Hudson Valley area of NY. My dad was from a small town on the Hudson River. It is pretty country, now ruined by Libs. Kinfolk spinning.

As an elderly property owner (free and clear) who is finding it more and more difficult to keep up said property, I've been thinking of selling out and renting somewhere. I am not now, nor have I ever been on social media with the exception of FR and a fishing board. Where a prospective landlord, you included, to ask me about my interenet activities I would tell him to ESAD!

The loss would be the landlord's and IMO deservedly so.

I don’t know...the government of the state is a refection of the leftist city. The government of ny lords it over the entire state.
Doesn’t matter how pretty the state is or how many opportunities there are because that government limits you in so many ways.
I agree ny is really nice but no way would I live there.

You know a day will come when they first start rounding up the guns.

That’s when CWII must start.

Why yes, I would be happy to set an example at that time.

Google precrime/Phillip K. Dick. He wrote a dystopian novel with an eerie similarity to what is being currently legislated.

Interesting:

The Minority Report (Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick)

The Minority Report is the fourth installment of a uniform, five-volume edition of The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick. This generous collection contains 18 stories and novellas written between 1954 and 1963, years in which Dick produced some of his most memorable work

Thanks for heads up. It does fit out times and began in 1954. Long long ago.

Shouldn’t we make sure the women aborting their kids aren’t inherently BAD people...?

What if they have a documented history of using SLURS, huh..?

I don’t look forward to that. But on the other hand, I’m old.

You know what they say about jumping on an old man.
