With Jeff Sessions out at the Justice Dept., the marijuana movement exhales
LA Times ^ | November 25, 2018 | Kurtis Lee

He described marijuana as a “very real danger” and has said its effects are “only slightly less awful” than those of heroin. Once, during a drug hearing when he was a Senator, he said he wanted to send a clear message: “Good people don’t smoke marijuana.”

So when Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions was ousted recently, a collective sigh of relief rose up from proponents of legalized pot — activists, politicians, investors — who felt targeted by the nation’s top law enforcement officer.

Sessions’s departure has translated into spiking stocks for cannabis companies and a reset of sorts for the legalization movement which, since 2012, has seen nearly a dozen states pass recreational pot measures.

A nation of drinkers...how great is that??

Sessions was a huge disappointment in that he failed to function as Attorney General and prevent a soft coup against the duly elected President, and he failed to find and promote a successor to keep the Alabama senate seat Republican. It almost seems deliberate and I do not have enough factual information yet to know why this happened.

Similar to the Nation filled with alcoholics, nicotine addicts, overweight food addicts, pill poppers, heroin junkies, coke heads, sex addicts, porn addicts, workaholics .... and those who chose differenly from the above or walked away from it in their own way if they could. Some are still dealing with it. People make choices.

For some its a choice, others its past that. Is this a huge mistake, legalizing marijuana.. time will tell?, just like other big issues, this country will sort it out.

Its supposed to be a bit messy, otherwise you have a toltarain government. First law signed by Hitler... banned smoking... went downhill from there... on the other side Churchill smoked 6 to 10 cigars a day... God loves us and has a sense of humor too.

Its called the Uniparty, fruits of the 17th Amendment. No checks and balances on the Senate, the parties and lobbyists have the control, took away the balance by having each State Government involved for the longest serving elected seat in government.

Read up on what JP Morgan did after the second time he bailed out the US Government. He did not want to deal with all the State Capitals. 2 party bosses and a few others. Morgan waslike Soros of today, but more malignant in my opinion, cause he succeeded in killing off the Republic with the 16th and 17th Amendments.

"...legalized pot..."

Totalitarians like a soft, pliable, hazy, and unmotivated population over which to rule.
Every drug-loving person who I know voted for President 0bama and Secretary Clinton.
No thanks. Never tried drugs and don’t need to start now.

I don't use Marijuana and think there are issue with drug usage. That said the War on Drugs has been a disaster from the money spent, the lives effected and the other crimes attributable to the War on Drugs.

I now think the best would be to allow states to decide and generate new taxes.

Also legalizing Marijuana would allow users to sue for damages. Nothing will clean up a situation like the US lawyers chasing money!

While I continue to support the full legalization of recreational marijuana, I agree with Jeff Sessions' very clear stance on the issue as Attorney General: "If you don't like the law, change the law. Don't simply choose not to enforce the law."

And the country seems to be following Sessions' advice.

There is no evidence that legalization would create more drug-loving persons; but it would take pot profits out of criminal hands.

No thanks. Never tried drugs and don’t need to start now.

Legalization would in no way require you to try pot.

It is a gateway to other drugs!

The same sort of data that supports this statement also supports alcohol and tobacco being gateway drugs. And that data can be explained by a pre-existing propensity toward mind alteration.

Take a look at Colorado now.....last I heard they are rethinking their cavalier attitude towards weed!

If they're thinking of adjusting some weed regulations - which I haven't heard - that's no argument whatever for banning weed and leaving it to the unregulated black market.

Non sequitur, there.

I was attempting to find relevance in your statement. Are you saying there was none to find?

Thank You NobleFree.

Things have been going fine so far it seems to me.

Just keep letting the states do what they are doing.

“Just keep letting the states do what they are doing.“

Yes. And let people decide with their feet which state to live in. And do not demand that the fed save a failing state.

“With Jeff Sessions out at the Justice Dept., the marijuana movement exhales”

You know what? No, they don’t.

No one was worried about Jeff Sessions doing anything to anyone except a bunch of lunatics that hang out in some thread somewhere around here.

Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, the Greatest Attorney Genital in the history of the Universe.

Thanks for the ping.

I never worried about Sessions because candidate Trump told us he thought medical marijuana was an issue for the states to decide.

As a legal cannabis patient here in Florida I’m thankful I have legal access to the medicine I need when I need it.

Wait until you cannot find anyone to hire because they cannot pass drug tests-—which YOUR INSURANCE company will demand.

You have employees?

You MUST have Workmen’s Comp insurance?

Those insurance companies can demand that every single employee has to be drug tested -random & often.

The cost burden of those tests will also fall on the
employer. Say goodbye to opening a business or expanding in your future. Better hope that all of YOUR drivers don’t use drugs in the future...your insurance won’t cover anything they do, either.

A delivery van hits YOUR car & it is totaled? Good luck if that other driver is using drugs. The other insurance company will NOT pay for the accident damages, and YOUR ‘Uninsured Motorist’ coverage may not be enough, either.

“Totalitarians like a soft, pliable, hazy, and unmotivated population over which to rule.”

What totalitarians really need however is lots of laws. Lots and lots of laws so that when they get in control, they can select one of many laws off the books to go after their opponents.

Once you have a society with so many laws that no reasonable individual can be expected to know, you have a lawless society. You also can’t legislate against stupidity.

As always, the best solution is to let states decide on the drugs laws as was intended by the constution, then we will have 50 different approaches ranging from prohibition to recreational use. Pick your state or get involved to set policy.

Federal drug law enforcement should be restricted to international, border, and interstate violations. There is plenty for Federal agents to do. We have very cheap heroin and illicit fentanyl right now. They need to focus their efforts on interdiction at the border and reducing the manufacturing of these opiates overseas.
