“So when Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions was ousted recently, a collective sigh of relief rose up from proponents of legalized pot..”

They aren’t the only ones who breathed a sigh of relief,

“..on the other side Churchill smoked 6 to 10 cigars a day...”

And drank like a fish. All to his and the world’s credit and good fortune.

“If you don’t like the law, change the law. Don’t simply choose not to enforce the law.”

The implication being just shut up and follow the law no matter how unChristly it is...”I was just following orders”. Jim Crow, Prohibition, gun bans etc were/are laws too.

It is not a gateway to other drugs. The same people smoking marijuana today are the same people who smoked it illegally.
The reason why the western states are getting problems with hard drugs like heroin is because those states are liberal, and they don’t enforce removing illegal druggie homeless encampments. Druggies from other states migrate to states that allow this behavior. I am seeing this in my state of Washington.
The reason why heroin is popular is because the market tightened up on Oxycontin and other oral pain meds. Heroin became a cheap alternative.

Those insurance companies can demand that every single employee has to be drug tested

Sure they CAN - but do they?

Better informed people than I have stated and given facts that marijuana IS a gateway!

Argue with them!

It is a gateway to other drugs!

The same sort of data that supports this statement also supports alcohol and tobacco being gateway drugs. And that data can be explained by a pre-existing propensity toward mind alteration.

Better informed people than I have stated and given facts that marijuana IS a gateway!

Facts that don't also identify alcohol and tobacco as gateway drugs? Facts that contradict the correlations being explained by a pre-existing propensity toward mind alteration?

"...lots and lots of laws..."

Thoughtful and well-considered post you have made. I agree with many of your points.
