Dershowitz: Mueller report will be ‘devastating’ politically for Trump
The Hill ^ | 11/25/18 | Brett Samuels

Posted on 11/25/2018 10:03:57 AM PST by yesthatjallen

Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz said Sunday he expects special counsel Robert Mueller's final report will be politically devastating for President Trump, but said he does not believe it will criminally implicate the president.

"I think the report is going to be devastating to the president. And I know that the president’s team is already working on a response to the report," Dershowitz said on ABC's "This Week."

"The critical questions are largely political," he added. "When I say devastating, I mean it's going to paint a picture that's going to be politically very devastating."

Dershowitz argued that Mueller is unlikely to accuse Trump of crime, but will instead lay out the facts of the case. He suggested that the president is more legally vulnerable in matters related to his business.

Dershowitz, who regularly appears on cable television and defends the president, said it remains to be seen whether acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker will make the special counsel's final report public. If he does, it will likely be released in tandem with a defense from the president's legal team, Dershowitz said.

Trump has repeatedly decried the Mueller investigation as a "witch hunt," and claimed that the special counsel and his team have conflicts of interest. He has not elaborated on the latter claim.

The president's legal team last week submitted written answers to some questions from Mueller, but Trump has indicated he is unlikely to sit for an in-person interview with the special counsel.

Mueller's investigation has thus far yielded four guilty pleas from former Trump associates, and he has obtained indictments against more than 20 Russian nationals for their alleged efforts to influence the 2016 election.

Nothing was hacked. That is why the DMV wouldn’t let the FBI look at their servers. There was no back of anything, unless you count Hillary circumventing all government security procedures a hack.

So in your opinion the hacking of the DNC and Hillary emails and releasing those hacks publicly was not designed to affect the outcome of the election?

Releasing information about how the DNC and Clinton's campaign functioned is no different than what news reporters have done for many years - investigate and report on political organizations. The press doesn't hold back from reporting about Republicans do they? Even when the sources for their information are far less reliable than copies of emails.

There is a long tradition in this nation of examining private communications to get at the truth. That is why the discovery process in lawsuits, as one example, requires participants to hand over emails.

"Hacking", or gaining access to a computer without permission is of course wrong, and a crime. But if the emails were actually leaked, as many suggest, then the DNC and Hillary are in no different position than anyone else where a whistleblower, or leaker, has released internal information that is embarrassing.

If the DNC and Hillary were honest, above board, patriotic leaders, then their internal emails would have shown them in a good light, and ensured their victory. But their internal emails showed them to be be shallow, corrupt, and power hungry scheming politicians.

The voters evaluated the DNC and Hillary's true character as shown by their private communications. The negative effects were their own fault.

You didn’t answer my question. Do you think they would freeze our bank accounts? I say yes.

Dershowitz usually has a pretty good take on things,

I have been wondering why Dershowitz has been going out of his way to "help" the president and now I know that my instincts were correct as always.

Now that he has captured the hearts of many on the right he will be used against them.

SOP for the Dems.

I’ve got $500 bucks that says they won’t.

They already have gone as loony as Leftys. You're a prime FR example.

Pony up the $500 you just lost.

It'll the first time in a while you've opened your wallet to support the cause...   winking face

Muellers job is to BANKRUPT EVERYONE around TRUMP and to SCARE GOOD people NOT TO GO IN TH ADMINISTRATION!!

I have been saying that for at least a year. The process is the punishment. Meaning the judicial process and having to hire expensive lawyers that can bankrupt you like Gen Mike Flynn. Mark Steyn has been saying this for years.

That's odd, since the "investigation" has lasted two years, and was purported to be about "Russian collusion", the only connection to which was the Steele Dossier, bought and paid for by the Hitlery campaign and the DNC.

Trump publicly asked them to hack Clinton

Are you referring to Trump's statement in a debate that maybe the Russians could find Hillary's emails?

If you think that was anything but a funny comment in a debate you are crazy. If Mueller et al are seriously trying to claim that is some kind of secret command to Putin they are going to end up being laughed out of town.

"So in your opinion the hacking of the DNC and Hillary emails...

Neither of those were "hacked".

=========================

Agreed.

Because the media says its true, doesn't make it so, obviously.

When did the FBI forensically investigate the server? Or any law enforcement agency for that matter?

“So in your opinion the hacking of the DNC and Hillary emails and releasing those hacks publicly was not designed to affect the outcome of the election?”

That may have been the design, but they had nothing to do with Trump winning the election.

I like to keep up with things more more than the average voter, but I certainly did not have the time or the inclination to wade through the Podesta emails.

The Podesta emails (released by Assange) were not hacked (were phished); a high school student could have gotten those, and the Hillary emails (and DNC emails as far as I know) have never been released.

The DNC never allowed an objective investigator to look at their server and the experts said it was an inside job.

But just because the emails were released certainly does not mean Trump or his campaign had anything to do with it.

And the attempts of the Obama administration, the DOJ, and the Intelligence apparatus to use the assets of the Federal government as weapons to stop Trump is an offense of an incalculable greater magnitude than the emails.

Regardless of what the report contains, the lame-stream news networks will treat it's contents as damning Trump.

More than the democrat party, our liberal, conservative-hating and Christian-hating main stream news media are THE problem. Unless the major news outlets start being balanced and objective - they will continue to falsely indict conservatives and Christians.

And, of course, hillary didn’t. I would say that, in contrast with the CGI, Trump’s business dealings resulted in jobs and generalized prosperity for workers.

If a crime can be completely fabricated against Donald Trump, none of us are safe.

True but I'm not sure they're fabricating crimes here.

They're just collecting rumors to put in a report so the MSM can keep referring to the final report as 'evidence' Trump is 'guilty of collusion'.

It's called, 'The Narrative'.
