Is it the first time man has landed a space craft on a non-earth object (no)?
Is it the first time man has landed on Mars (no)?
Is the space craft carrying a human or even an animal (no)?

It’s historic because it’s been done so few times, and it’s difficult to do.
Russia has tried many times to put a spacecraft on Mars and failed.
