I have relatives that are teachers...one recently made the comment that, “as teachers, you know, we all vote Democrat”.
How mind numbing is that? Not only are they teaching your kids, they don’t like uncomfortable questions because they don’t ask any AMONG THEMSELVES. Complete “group think” that isn’t ALLOWED to question “the message”. Critical thinking not allowed - among TEACHERS no less. My relative doesn’t comprehend that there’s even a problem here...

If that were my kid, I'd have gotten that teacher after school and we would have had a very serious discussion with the school officials, and then we'd have gone outside.

the kid should have taken the hat off, if that’s the rule, and if he refused, he should have been sent to the principle’s office, as he was providing a distraction to the learning atmosphere by baiting the teacher and the other students (which he was perfectly aware he was doing); the content expressed by the hat, political or otherwise, is irrelevant...I’m sure the tone of the commentary on this thread would be completely different if the kid had an Obama hat on, and refused to take it off, on the grounds that people are too timid and stupid to deal with it...

You are right about it not being a possibility for many. My daughter has had 2 kids and is not married and is trying to get rid of a live-in boy friend. She would have liked to homeschool but she sure wasn't interested in marrying a Christian man. So homeschooling is not possible for her but that is due to some really bad choices about sex partners.

My guess the "teacher" just said, "Take off the hat", with no other qualifier.

Which to me was never really explained as a rule or policy but a personal opinion delivered as a school policy.
I've been on the school board and offended teachers always run to the superintendent because they really don't know what to do "legally".
Bottom line is, a fellow stoont filmed this and the kid is on solid ground.

BTW, “under” is also “off,” when you consider being “on” as being “on the surface.” And, yes, I’m still for helping them in every way - because, rest assured, if people like this teacher ever get power here, as they did in the USSR, then we will all be escorted off of the surface by being placed (none too gently) underneath that surface.

In my view it started with Cohen v California, known as the “f*** the draft case,” where a guys conviction for disorderly conduct in a CA courthouse for refusing to remove a shirt with that printing in it was overturned. There followed a bunch of cases the recognized that students can engage in political expression in school with their clothing. It’s disruptive to the mission, and I think the cases were wrongly decided. If we object to teachers expressing political views, then likewise students shouldn’t, either. School is for learning, not politics.
Irrespective of the politics, if there’s a no hat rule, this student was insolent and disobedient and the use of the word “evacuate” is not a fair characterization of what the teacher did. Much as I despise the educational establishment, I don’t have quarrel with this teacher’s actions.
Please don’t interrupt me.
