Macron on the Brink: Water Cannon, Tear Gas, and Stun Grenades as ‘Yellow Jackets’

Macron on the Brink: Water Cannon, Tear Gas, and Stun Grenades as ‘Yellow Jackets’ Storm Security Cordons(Full Title)

Riot police have deployed water cannon, tear gas, and stun grenades against protesters on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, France, as the “Yellow Jackets” stage their third major rally against President Emmanuel Macron’s “green” tax hikes on fuel.

The clashes on the famous avenue leading to Napoleon Bonaparte’s iconic Arc de Triomphe come as Macron is in Argentina for the G20, threatening to disrupt a planned trade deal between the European Union and South America’s Mercosur bloc over a disagreement with Brazil’s new president Jair Bolsonaro — dubbed the “Trump of the Tropics” — over a disagreement on climate change.

The globalist poster boy’s “green” policies are running into substantial opposition at home, however, with the “Yellow Jackets” movement which has united the anti-establishment left with the populist right in a loose, seemingly leaderless coalition in defence of the French working class bringing the presidency of the man who once boasted he would govern “like Jupiter” to the brink.

Over a hundred people have already been arrested, with the authorities complaining of around 1,500 “agitators” among the protesters.

“There’s a lot of incitement on social media and we are expecting excess and violence,” remarked David Michaux, of the UNSA Police union.

I think it was on Top Gear that I learned that every car in France has to carry a yellow vest in case of breakdown. This rule predates Macron, but is an example of the nanny state making a good idea a requirement with stiff penalties for non compliance. This is where all of these vests are coming from—drivers’ trunks.

Too many European leaders without children

I wonder if that may be an effect of the globalist agenda being implemented, not a cause. People who care about home and family and preserving Europe for their descendants are not going to function in the world of the EU elite. In all fairness, many parts of Europe have tried to vote their way out of the EU. They elect people who promise to do so. And then those new leaders get bought off.

It's happening here, too. The only people who aren't ridiculed and criminalized by the elite are those who go along with the Deep State agenda.

“Macron Merkel and May”. None of them have children an that means they personally have no future that they care about. To them it’s all about what they can enjoy themselves before our Creator calls for them.

This explains a lot about their destructive policies.

People being stirred up by high taxes. I hope the French remember what they did in 1879 to the ruling class that didn’t care about the people.

Nice pix. From some of the comments I get the impression that it’s the social engineering aspect of higher taxes that really has them upset. No wonder the government is alarmed. “We’re going to tax you out of driving for the good of everyone. Now please don’t block my limousine.”

Sounds like Atlas is shrugging....if socialists in France are losing control of their productive middle class “aphids” that will no longer be “tapped” by the socialist “honeydew ants” then their will be chaos that rocks the EU structure itself.

The Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume is on fire.

This would be similar to one of the galleries on the Mall in D.C. to be on fire, the Hirshenson Museum of Sculpture, say.

Twitter feed link

This is the gallery where the Nazis kept the art they stole as they rampaged across Europe. Private showings of the looted art were given to Goering, who was in charge of deciding what would be shipped to Germany for the Furhermuseum, and what would be sold to fund the war effort.

The building itself is very historic, not to mention the contents.

It's NOON PST now, in Paris it is 9:00 PM.

It will be interesting to see what the morning brings.

MACRON MUST RESIGN!

It is one of the protesters main demands. Along with rescinding gas taxes.

""Macron has sought to douse the anger by promising three months of nationwide talks on how best to transform France into a low-carbon economy without penalising the poor...."

To a well-to-do lefty globalist this might sound perfectly logical.

To the citizens who are struggling to pay the bills and are tired of ever-increasing taxes this is not going to calm their feelings. Many of the working class are tiring of paying the huge price in taxes to subsidize the uninvited guests which are living off the taxpayer and will continue doing so as long as the gravy train continues, while despoiling the nation and culture which is feeding them but they find repulsive.

Macrons approval rating is down to 22-23% and will continue to fall. And we all know by now how honest "negotiations" are with the globalist Euro cabal.

AP Summary:

PARIS (AP) — The most violent urban riots in a decade engulfed the French capital on Saturday, as “yellow jacket” protesters torched cars, smashed windows, looted stores and tagged the Arc de Triomphe in Paris with multi-colored graffiti.

Protesters angry about rising taxes and the high cost of living clashed with riot police, who closed off some of the city’s most popular tourist areas and fired tear gas and water cannon in running street battles with activists dressed in the fluorescent yellow vests of a new protest movement.

It was the third straight weekend of clashes in Paris and the worst urban violence since at least 2005. Hours later, cars still smoldered and law enforcement and protesters were still facing off elsewhere in the capital.

The scene contrasted sharply with protests elsewhere in France, where demonstrations and road blockades Saturday were largely peaceful.

Paris police said at least 92 people, including 20 police officers, were injured in the violent protests in the French capital and 224 others were arrested. Thousands of police were deployed to try to contain the mayhem.

Deputy Interior minister Laurent Nunez said police were facing “violent extremists” in Paris who had hijacked the protest.

“We are facing troublemakers who are targeting the symbols of the state,” he told BFM television.

The clashes started early Saturday near the Arc de Triomphe monument and continued in the afternoon down several streets in the French capital’s most popular tourist area. Pockets of demonstrators built makeshift barricades in the middle of Paris streets, lit fires, sprayed graffiti on the Arc de Triomphe and fire to cars and trash cans. Some stores were looted.

French television showed police leading a shaken woman away from the protesters, and loud bangs rang out near the famed Champs Elysees Ave where the violence was centered.

Central Paris was locked down by Saturday afternoon, with all roads leading away from the arc closed off as more police moved in. Over 20 Paris metro stations were closed on Saturday evening for security reasons, the Paris public transport company RATP said.

Some demonstrators removed the barriers protecting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I under the Arc de Triomphe monument to pose near its eternal flame and sing the national anthem. They were then dispersed by police.

Graffiti sprayed onto the Arc de Triomphe wrote: “yellow jackets will triumph.”

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo tweeted her “indignation” and “deep sadness” at the confrontations, saying that violence is “not acceptable.”

In addition to rising taxes, demonstrators are furious about President Emmanuel Macron’s leadership, saying his government does not care about ordinary people. The grassroots protests began with motorists upset over a fuel tax hike, but now involve a broad range of demands related to France’s high cost of living.

Some of the protests appear to have been taken over by more radical far-right or far-left groups.

French authorities said they counted 75,000 protesters Saturday across the country, including 5,500 in Paris, numbers that were less than last week’s protest but produced much more violence.

Earlier Saturday, several hundreds of peaceful protesters in Paris passed through police checkpoints to reach the Champs-Elysees. They marched on the famed avenue behind a big banner writing “Macron, stop taking us for stupid people.”

Access to the Champs-Elysees was closed to cars and strictly monitored by police with identity checks and bag inspections.

“It’s difficult to reach the end of the month. People work and pay a lot of taxes and we are fed up,” said Rabah Mendez, a protester who came from a southern suburb to march peacefully in Paris.

“Our purchasing power is severely diminishing every day. And then: taxes, taxes and taxes,” said Paris resident Hedwige Lebrun. “The state is asking us to tighten our belts, but they at the contrary live totally above all standards with our money.”

Since the yellow jacket movement kicked off on Nov. 17, two people have been killed and hundreds injured in accidents stemming from the protests.
