Moral platitudes and high grounds simply don’t work in this day and age. Nation states rarely wage war anymore. That said, I can easily provide you with justification.

The easiest is that ISIS used/uses Syria as a base to expand their presence in both Syria and Iraq, to launch attacks into Iraq and to plot attacks against the US and our Western allies. Since Assad can’t or is unwilling to totally destroy ISIS, we need to be there to ensure our security is monitored.

But that’s nothing compared to the nightmare scenario which is...

Our departure leaves a vacuum eagerly filled by Russia and Iran. Iran, supported and emboldened by Russia acquires more and better arms and potentially nuclear weapons - even if only tactical ones.

Iran launches sponsored attacks into Israel from Syria by “Freedom Fighters” it has trained, outfitted and paid all the while denying any involvement. Israel is forced to invade Syria to stop the attacks. Russia intervenes on Syria’s behalf because Assad gives Russia a 2nd warm water seaport (the first being Crimea)

There are dozens of ways the above could spiral out of control. The security of the Middle East is our business. It has always been our business and will always be as long as they control the oil. Simple as that.

I would argue that our chances for war are greater in the long term if we stay in Syria. We’ve had run-ins with Russia there that could have escalated into open conflict. Who wants to go to war over some mud huts in Syria? Same goes for Afghanistan. There is nothing in that part of the world worth my son’s life, or the life of any other American.

It isn’t isolationist to return to our bases in Europe or other overseas stations, and we should make it clear to our allies we aren’t packing up for good, but our days of regime toppling and nation building needs to end. When the Russians and Chinese encroach where we’ve let go, they will soon get tied down just like we were. Let the Chinese build one of their empty cities in Afghanistan. They can have it. Maybe they’ll actually destroy the poppy fields.

Well, maybe parts are. But I was referring to the Kurds who we have left hung out to dry and without which, we never would have defeated ISIS.

...it's the right call.

Probably. Just keep the right munitions - including MOABs - ready for immediate use throughout the entire islamist theatre.

He is right though. Hillary was clearly determined to widen the war in Syria. It might not be THE reason for Trump’s election, but a key component.

I support DJT in getting us out of Obama’s war.

Thank you, Mr. President!

Why don’t you start an “Abraham Lincoln Brigade” and go fight for Israel?

Bibi doesn’t call the shots, or run our foreign policy.

Trump is the POTUS not Bibi.

Assad won—time to pull out. The Rebels lost the war—What are we to do? Send more troops and invade—seize Assad and let the rebels (who have proven to be barbaric anti-Christians) rule? No best to cut our losses and pull out now. As long as Russia backs Assad—and we don’t a war with Russia that could morph into WW III. (Russia, China, North Korea, vs. USA, UK, NATO, and Canada (?) that could cost BILLIONS of Lives.) Best to let the Middle East kill each other.

Exactly!

The anti-Assad forces lost! Time to go and try to patch things best we an with Assad.

What did we actually expect to happen? Our intervention was “half-assed” as was everything the Zero-Hellary cabal did on the international scene! I was not for our intervention but if you’re going to intervene then INTERVENE!!. Which we did not do!

The failures of the Rats in their international policy is an example of their failure to apply Machiavelli. They have no trouble doing it in domestic politics but can’t seem to bring themselves to do it on the international stage. So they “half ass” it and we get what we get.

We don’t need to spend any more of our people’s blood and treasure in the middle east or Afghanistan or various other 3rd world crapholes or in Europe. Let others solve their own problems. Bring the boys home and secure our borders. Oh and of course, drill baby drill!

It could lead to a revival of ISIS and increased attacks in the USA.

So if Mexico thought the best way to fight the cartels was to occupy a part of the SW United States you’d be OK with that, because expediency trumps national borders.

Another resignation today. Trump has FUBARED this big time. So much for “listening to his generals”. What an ass he’s being.

“Promise To End The War In Syria Is Why Trump Won The Election”

I don’t remember him making a big deal about Syria. I wish Trump had though. I would have voted for him twice.

There was more than one promise. The President is doing all that he can, short of being arrested, indicted, and impeached, to build that wall. He is the last person I blame for its slow progress. The Democrats are the resistance. They do not respect the election results, nor what President Trump voters voted for. Had the Democrats really lost the recent midterm elections the resistance would have crumbled. Their voters turned out and flipped the House. Their voters also flipped some Republican seats and held some Democrat seats in the Senate: Arizona, Nevada, West Virginia, and Montana (not to mention Alabama). We could have had a Republican House and 48 GOP Senators. The MSM propaganda is the main reason. There is visceral hatred and mental illness in half the country toward our President.

You can always volunteer to go to Syria yourself and fight ...

Brett McGurk, who I do not know, was appointed by President Obama in 2015. Was supposed to leave in February but he just resigned prior to leaving. Grandstander? The Fake News is making such a big deal about this nothing event!

Your 24 - oh, that’s good. That’s the position a lot of the media are now in, because reflexive opposition to Trump pulling the troops is propagation of a rather pointless effort with no strategic objective. Reflexive support of 0bama means that they owned it and still do, and it won’t hurt at all to remind them of it.
