It’s a MAJOR deterrent, quite sure stuff like this will be tried and some successful. Plus it’s much better to chase down a couple of them in one spot than numerous ones at a time out in the open.

That must be why prisons and Air Force bases never use fences or walls. They prefer open boundaries with a virtual fence. See? They are totally useless. /s

Any wall or barrier is going to be penetrated. They idea is to SLOW THEM DOWN enough to allow the proper response.
So far today we have one story about the material being vulnerable to sawing, one that says that the wall isn't necessary, and one that says the country will fall if the government shutdown isn't ended. I'm catching a little pattern here. Probably just me.

Such a single minded examination of the problem. The wall will be a system. A fence is only a barrier to keep honest people out just like you lock on your door at home. The wall will need to be monitored and inspected regular like any rancher checks his fence. Maintenance crews will be busy repairing the facility. Drones and the barrage balloons will also have to watch for invasion.

EVERY door to EVERYONE’S home is “vulnerable to penetration” as well. Should we live without doors, then?
plus the barrier is one of several layers. It’s not like the BP is gonna be laid off now.
As a military engineer, all obstacles are required to be covered by either fires or observation. Our border’s physical obstacle , a wall or a series of walls,fences or other barriers singley or in depth also must include sensors ( tamper, video, seismic etc) to alert border patrol to the presence/ attempt and effect prompt response to interdict. The idea of an impenetrable wall is rather sophomoric, the scale of such would be extremely expensive and obsolete in short order.
Of course, fires, direct or indirect or perp initiated, are off the table, morally.
It’s what liberals have been doing to us for years. If it’s something they don’t want but can’t openly admit they don’t want it, anything less than perfection is unacceptable. If it’s something they want, any incremental gain is acceptable, no matter the cost.
I hate them.
