Never hacked? never lost? never crashes? It’s a foolish irrational concept, let alone force everyone to do it whether they want to or not.

That $5 tip you left the waiter at lunch just turned into a $50 tip.

“You left a $5 tip? Please show us the receipt.”

Good point. How many receipts are equivalent to one newspaper?

If clerks never made mistakes, I’d have no reason for receipts. Until they fix their problem, I’ll stay with the paper backup.

I’ll never forget the time I entered a sandwich chain and ordered a turkey sandwich with just tomato and lettuce. I got the bread, lettuce and tomato with NO TURKEY. Then I checked the receipt which specifically said “No meat”.

I went back and asked why I’d ask for a turkey sandwich with no turkey. She could have demured and said it was a mistake but the paper receipt was there as proof that it wasn’t a mistake. I got exactly what she told the cook to produce.

They apologized and re-made the sandwich.

Respectfully... got news for you, it hasn’t worked yet. The feds keep jumping on the bandwagon and adopting the same crap. The feds like all that unneeded control over the people too. Every excuse they can invent or adopt from Ca. Next time the liberals get control get ready for all this irrational garbage to become the law of the land. You can Bank on it... It is part of the manifesto.

We need to look down the road further with the cause and effect reality of these concepts if they are allowed to fly.

"CVS will need an entirely new business model."

Hacking, power disruptions, computer viruses, software problems will arise.
You have to have back up systems and redundancy so you can operate when more complex systems fail.

Just as cash is the most efficient way to handle a high volume of customers very quickly, paper receipts are also flexible, simple and fast.

Obviously, these leftist municipalities want more tracking and the vendors for the software systems are making the push. No doubt, those involved are making money selling data. These systems could also be very useful for law enforcement and IRS against businesses and customers. They probably have algorithms to predict crime. So suppose someone wants to do some cleaning and buys chemicals that could be used for an explosive, law enforcement (via AI) can capture the purchase info on your cell phone via sting ray surveillance.

Same thing with electronic medical records. It slows the provider but enhances the surveillance and control by the health plan administrator/ government.

California’s communists empire strikes again. Many of us use these receipts to balance checkbook or Internet purchases (usually one comes with merchandise). All hail Newsom, the king and his court, the legislature.

They already ask if you want one now, no reason to even get involved. And it WILL become mandatory no paper in short order once they get their foot in the door. Are you familiar with how Ca does things?

First they came for the plastic bags, then plastic straws. Now California progressives want to ban paper receipts. Like so many other liberal crusades, the fight against paper receipts is cronyism masquerading as green virtue.

Are they really that stupid? Why yes they are! Why not start with a much larger target? Ban printed newspapers.

Tillamook. Local politicians used to fight against UWV and CA values. State with held money for highways and stuff for as far back as I can remember. New crop of politicians are in full worship mode.

That is bad news. Y’all are much closer to Portland than Coos and Curry, which is probably worse than being near the California border, but I would expect that my old stomping grounds will not be too far behind you.

YOU have a lousy email service.

I insist on paper receipts. Personally I can’t stand email billing either. We get dozens of emails a day. If we don’t immediately save or print the receipts, we quickly lose them.

That's the beauty of having your own domain, and a domain-based mail service. For me, receipts go to separate e-mail boxes, so that they don't get intermixed with other traffic. That role account does attract some spam, because there is no law against businesses selling the addresses.

Once I weed the spam, I can easily save them. In fact, I let filters do the secondary sorting for me.

FWIW—my mother grew up in rural Lane County and I still have conservative family there. Unfortunately Lane has been a reliable bell whether for the future of Oregon for quite some time. Not very pretty unless you have figured out how to eat scenery.
