an 15 (Reuters) - Big Pacific storms are set to dump up to seven feet (2.1 meters) of snow in California's Sierra Nevada mountains and several inches of rain elsewhere in the state, forcing evacuations in areas at risk to mudslides.
The first storm moved over Southern California on Tuesday, with rainfall of up to 3 inches (7.6 cm) expected in parts of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties and up to 4.5 inches (11.4) in the Santa Monica Mountains, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported.
Police in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties ordered evacuations from areas damaged by last year's wildfires because of the risk heavy rain would trigger mud and debris flows on charred hillsides.
Significant road closures and travel delays were possible in the Los Angeles area given risks of flash flooding and rockslides, the NWS reported.
An even bigger storm was brewing out at sea and set to hit the coast on Wednesday, Accuweather reported.
Areas north of Santa Barbara were likely to see up to 3 inches (7.6 cm) of rain. As much as seven feet of snow was possible over 6,000 feet (1,829 meters) in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Let's check in again with the spring floods, summer drought and fall fires.
Still, seven feet of snow is newsworthy.
But we are still in perpetual, fake-panic, drought conditions & cannot remove that brick from our toilets.
Yes. My thoughts too. With this type of snow, there should be plenty of water for drought stricken California. That is, if they keep it in the reservoirs.
Boy, that’s some global warming for you!
If it keeps raining and snowing like it has been so far this winter...through the end of February...a big ‘ol Pineapple Express in early March will bring us more epic floods.
“That is, if they keep it in the reservoirs.”
They’re letting it out as fast as they can right now as the water year begins to shape up favorably.
There’s only so much room behind those dams, and they’ve been in good shape for a couple of consecutive years.
Full is full.
More floods, yes. But since they once again are too stupid to actually catch all this rain before it flows to the ocean, they will be hyping the drought again next year.
Why we have to rely on it it snowing in the Sierras for the entire state’s water supply when it would make a whole lot more sense to capture the water in the whole state, is beyond me.
Even as low as Lake Tahoe (6400ft) they’re expecting 4-5 feet of snow.
That’s debilitating snowfall. Paralyzing.
I’m laughing my head off at my neighbor, over the last week his back yard fence fell down his slope behind his house due to all the rain. He’s a bad neighbor to everyone, big liberal, the rest of us all have good relations and are conservative. Anyway, some years back I offered to reinforce his back yard when I re-engineered mine with drainage and anchoring, he refused and he has lost several fences and a deck down the slope behind his house. Mine is rock solid over last 30 years. He’s lost maybe 8 feet of hillside, and the edge is creeping closer to his house. More rain is on the way, and I laugh at the stupidity of some liberals like him that allow problems to continue while they make it worse, rather than do long-term solutions.
Why didnt you tell him your engineering was settled science?
I guess now Trump will have to reopen the government to send Ca their emergency aid funds.
All this rain will encourage undergrowth of vegetation which will dry out when the rain stops and create tinder in the summer. Another bad fire season to come.
Funny how the Global Warming stories disappear at this time of year...
You can't talk to liberals and expect good feedback or credit. I told him his deck supports were failing and not to use his deck as it was dangerous. I shouldn't have said anything, as he stopped using it before it soon collapsed. Would have solved the bad neighbor problem.
[ California storms to dump up to 7 feet of snow, force evacuations ]
This can’t be true. Global Warming destroyed all snow.
If he doesnt reopen the government...cali will lose more than 5 billion to pay for clean up. Cali needs to be divided...all red counties should form a new state...squeeze out the cities...let them grow their own food and get their own power and water...watch em shrivel and fall apart.
Gotta find time to wreck my board at Heavenly....
shrinking glaciers,
dying polar bears,
starving Africans,
POLAR ICE CAP!!!!
Now if this were summer and extreme in the opposite direction, they’d be screaming about global warming, we’re gonna die stuff. When it goes extreme in the other direction (cold), they get awfully quiet.
Listen, it’s the sound of crickets in the dead of winter...
“But we are still in perpetual, fake-panic, drought conditions & cannot remove that brick from our toilets”
Now it’s potential NG shortages. We are being asked to keep the thermostat no higher than 68 degrees.
