One another thing the Gipper wouldn’t have wasted away a perfectly good two house majority in bringing about limited conservative constitutional government like the Donald did.

Ronald Reagan was the first president I was old enough to vote for, a true great American president. I wish I could find the first commercial I ever saw during his 1980 campaign. I have searched but cant find it on the web. At its closing, Reagan was speaking, saying in summary that the rest of the world may not like us, but they were damn well going to respect us. Got my vote then and there. And I was so happy that the Carter presidential disaster would be over soon.

Would it be one of these? My flash is out of date so I can’t view them:

I will have to try from home later. I cant get it to play on the machine I am on now. I do recall that the part where Reagan said “they may not like us, but they will respect us” was him talking to the TV audience with a blue backdrop (maybe something on the backdrop as well).

If you find it let me know.

After the 1984 election, the media was aghast and tried to figure out why he was able to win. They thought he had mesmerized the public with his words and the color blue as in the back drop. By the 1988 election they had moved the identifying color for the Republican party from blue to red. Suddenly, the Republicans had become red.

So you’re saying I was mesmerized by his ad and brainwashed into conservatism by his blue backdrop.... ;)
