Shooter in Aurora, Illinois, manufacturing plant wasn't legally allowed to own gun

Gary Montez Martin, the man who opened fire inside a manufacturing company in Aurora, Illinois, legally should not have been in possession of a firearm, police said on Saturday.

On Friday, Martin, who had been an employee of the Henry Pratt Co. for 15 years, opened fire at a meeting during which he was being terminated from his job, according to Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman.

Ziman said that Martin shot at the person who was firing him and others in the meeting before moving outside the room.

"We believe that several people who were involved in that meeting are the ones who are deceased," Ziman said during a press conference on Saturday.

Martin killed five people in total and injured several police officers during the rampage, before being shot and killed by police.

During the press conference, Ziman named the victims, who were all employees of Henry Pratt Co.: Clayton Parks, the human resources manager; Trevor Wehner, a human resources intern and a student at Northern Illinois University; Russell Beyer, a mold operator; Vicente Juarez, a stock room attendant and forklift operator; and Josh Pinkard, the plant manager.

So he couldn’t “legally” own a gun. So fine him!

And the “good” news is, even though the perp is dead, he will still vote at least several times in 2020. He might even vote more dead than he ever did when he was alive!

I’m assuming that the warehouse had a NO FIREARMS policy.

Foolish.

Still scratchin my head.
Illinois FOID background check goes through the fed NICS.
He wasn’t caught there.

Assuming he bought the gun from an FFL dealer, they also do a background check thru NICS.
He wasn’t caught there.

The Concealed Carry background check also goes thru the NICS. Fingerprints are optional.
(background check takes longer without them)he did give finger prints and he was caught, again the check was NICS.

The only difference in the background check is the finger print.
Is his name in NICS database different ? or spelled wrong ? or an alias ?

State Police might or might not have screwed the pooch, here.
The question is, are the State Police suppose to go get the weapons ?

The killer ignored the “no guns” sign. The nerve of him! Didn’t he know he could have been in big trouble if he was caught with a gun?

You are probably from Il, and I am not disputing what you say. But I thought the NICS check was Federal law.

I have to admit that was a thought as well. HR has nothing to do with humans or resources.

I’ve never had an HR person who did anything but muck up the works.

In my view, 2A applies to everyone so unless dude is on probation I don’t see how it’s proper to violate his rights no matter what he did in the past. If he’s a violent psycho he should be dead or still in prison. I suppose you could do lifetime probation or something, but again my preference is the person who would need lifetime probation and is so horrible that him having a pistol is something that can’t be contemplated, shouldn’t be free/alive. As we see the prohibition of gun ownership is meaningless anyway since that sort of person can and will obtain a fireman illegally.

Voting should be a privilege. I support banning felons from voting for the simple reason the majority of them would rat. I don’t care whether that’s fair or not, we are at war with the left and must use all tools at our disposal. My deepest condolences to decent people with tax evasion convictions who can’t vote. If we can selectively ban rat demographic type crimes only, great.

States are responsible for the background check done when selling a gun. NICS is the standard resource to do that. Many states, including my own, allow an existing state firearms license or CCW permit to take the place of the NICS check.

Well, in my idea of a civilized society, this cretin had already provided ample evidence he shouldn’t be allowed to live among us. And ultimately, he proved that judgment to be correct.

I am from Michigan, not Ill, but in several states, including Michigan, if a person possesses a concealed carry permit or state issued FOID, they are not required to go through a NICS check when purchasing. We still have to fill out a form 4473, but do not need the NICS phone call.

The past four guns I purchased I only flashed my CPL to the FFL, and he recorded that information on the 4473 in lieu of a NICS approval number. (Line 21 on form 4473)

Illinois doesn’t enforce gun laws against known felons.

According to Illinois statutes, State Police are required to check NICS database for both the FOID and gun purchase back ground checks.

If a white guy in a red cap had done the shooting, the cables and networks would be all over this heinous crime every hour, every day....in every way. But as soon as the perp was identified as a person of color....the crime suddenly began to get only slight, random notice from the MSM. In a day or two, this mass carnage will be relegated to the dust-bin of history.....except for those in the enemdia hell-bent on tying this all to Trump.

WELL SAID!
