Southern California authorities have arrested a suspect in connection to a nearly half-century-old murder case.
Newport Beach police and Orange County prosecutors said they'll reveal details of their probe of a 1973 slaying during a 10 a.m. press conference on Wednesday.
Authorities declined to immediately disclose details of the arrest, but Newport Beach police said last year they were taking a fresh look at the 1973 slaying of 11-year-old Linda O'Keefe.
The girl lived in the Corona del Mar neighborhood of Newport Beach and was last seen alive on July 6, 1973, as she walked home from summer school.
O'Keefe was strangled and her body found the next day.
"My office will never forget about cold cases," Orange County DA Todd Spitzer said in a statement on Tuesday.
Spitzer's statement thanked the FBI, the Colorado Springs Police Department, and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department in Colorado for their assistance.
Newport Beach police in July released a sketch of a man, the possible suspect, based on DNA collected at the scene. A turquoise van was spotted near where O'Keefe was last seen, police have said.

Here’s the story from last year that first brought this to my attention. It’s incredibly sad that this guy destroyed so many lives. The DNA ancestry sites were used to catch him.

Isn’t it amazing how she ignored funding of the Rape ID DNA tests as our state AG, and that serious lack of action has been ignored by both left wing mediots and right wing mediots.

That capability is available now. For some reason, it is seldom used. When it is used, the results are amazingly accurate.

My wife is what she calls an old fashioned 3 year RN. They did one year of classes with medical students and two years of on hand nursing training before being able to take or challenge state nursing boards.
Two of her retired 3 year RN friends were ER nurses for most of their career.
They felt that the non funding of the DNA Rape Kit ids was purely political.
#1. Some big names in politics/government might have been identified as rapists.
#2. That a high % of the rapists were released criminals or illegals.
DNA Identity exposure of vermin in either category would have caused a fecal storm that those in power didn’t want to happen.
All well and good but this guy should have met his maker years ago. I am guessing he might be 70 by now. So you toss him in prison but no big deal for him. For him prison will be no hassle. Will be like an upgraded form of social security and medicare all rolled into one. Everything is taken care of for him.
In prison he is missing relationships with older women and that’s about it.

I saw an interview with a woman who had worked with Bundy. She said he used to walk her to her car after work, insisted on it because he told her there were a lot of crazy people. She said he never once said or did anything to make her feel uncomfortable.
Very interesting Dave. I was just throwing out percentages in my previous post. I really did not know what I was talking about. I probably had seen some cold case show on TV.
Bundy really was a true wolf in sheep’s clothing.
IF you watch that Netflix series I referred to you will be amazed as I was.
If he could have kept his rape/murderous flip side of his personality in check he might have been a great politician. He was a true sociopath. In the end the FBI profilers that wrote the books learned a lot from him. I think he even helped them in looking for other serial killers.

These states can afford anything for illegals and welfare people, yet they “can’t afford” to run DNA tests from rape kits to identify the rapists.

DNA will become as standard as fingerprints in identifying criminals, and what they may look like now with DNA data and present tech taken from crime victims from decades ago to today.

They have had that possible IDing via DNA re what a suspect might look like years after the crime for well over a decade.
