Blue-collar men in pink-collar times (Underlying crisis in 21st century economy)

Young and less educated men are losing their place in the U.S. workforce.

Why it matters: Technology and automation, shrinking unions and changing family dynamics have transformed the role of men in the workforce, while male high school graduates either need to pursue higher education or enter lower-paid industries traditionally dominated by women.

1. The shifting workforce Technology, globalization and the shrinking of unions have led to lower wages and disappearing blue collar jobs, Harry Holzer, an economist at Georgetown University and former chief economist for the Department of Labor, told Axios.

In their place, unskilled jobs in health care and secretarial work are booming — occupations traditionally dominated by women. But sociologists have found young men reluctant to take what they perceive to be "woman" jobs. "They don't see themselves as doing that or think it's a feminized job," Robert Moffitt from John Hopkins University told Axios. "Even though the wages are not too bad, they don't want to enter those occupations." Be smart: Less educated women have seen their wages rise as their male counterparts' have fallen, but women are still less likely to be in the workforce than men, hold far fewer leadership roles and in many cases are paid less.

The union-enamored Holzer served
in the Clinton administration,
in case you were curious. This
would have around the time Hillary
was made patron saint of the
International Laborers Union.

So-called “pink collar” jobs are not attractive to many men simply because they require far more human interaction and sensitivity than most men are truly comfortable with.

Men and women are different. Men are better at some things, and women are better at others.

Meanwhile, employers are desperate for qualified candidates. Especially those that can pass a drug test. Hmmmm......

And the feminists complain about their economic domination by whining there aren’t enough high status men to marry, all the men are jerks.

You created this, and you asked for it. Ms. I’ve got a PHD in liberal arts, check your privilege and marry a mechanic.

Oh that just won't do.

She'd rather shack up with a soi-boy and pay that smelly mechanic at the shop $110 an hour to work on her Subaru.

After all, Crazy Bernie and AOC are going to pay off her $150,000 student loan. Any day now.

There is a growing shortage of tradesmen due to the corrupt Universities trying to push for “4 years of college for all”. You can still make a lot of dough and not have a student loan debt. Many Jr Colleges have such training programs. You just have to be willing to get your hands dirty. Of course you would work with people who smoke and drink beer and vote for Trump. So maybe it’s not a good ides for millenials who can’t drive a stick shift.

My Grand daughter is training to become a plumber, $40 bucks an hour for Journey Men, in my area.

My son works for a cement company 30 bucks an hour plus benes.
He also works on the side as a diesel mechanic for 40 buck an hour on the side.

Plenty of money out there if you have the skills.

My husband was pushed into early retirement. For something to do, he had a plan to build a boat & took welding classes at the local Community College. Welders make BIG money. Every chance I get I tell young folks to look into welding!

So blue collar men will not have jobs, eh?
When your furnace breaks, your pipes leak, you need a new roof, your car won’t start, and on and on and on -

Who ya gonna call, “Bernnie never had a job’, Occasional Cortex, an Underwater Lesbian Art Major, your local Starbucks Barista - or someone who actually can fix things?

it has nothing to do with union power.

And more to do with the propensity of youth to drop out and live a life of larping. The - work to live - philosophy instead of what they see as the ‘live to work’ philosophy of their parents
